Doing maintenance and I noticed that I have some pocilipora growing on my return nozzle on the back side … any thoughts how that happened?

Here’s my colony (two actually right next to each other, and I’ve circled where the return nozzle is compared to the colony)

They spit polyps from time to time and they grow into new colonies where they land.

They have polyps bail out and grow in new places. Some people never have it happen and some have it happen so much that they nearly need to break their tanks down. It is easy to kill with some kalk paste or you can scrape them off with a bone cutter or something.

I had a bailout happen a few years ago. I had pocilipora pop up in 7 different places in the tank. I was able to control the new growth, and took out the original colony. Now I just have one patch growing on one of my overflows, and I'm okay with that. Haven't had a bailout since. No idea what caused it. I do keep a close eye on it though.

Pocillipora are the devil. Get rid of it ASAP. It will overrun your tank if you’re not careful. I’ve actually seen people take their tanks down and start over due to mass spreading of poci.
