Hey guys I’m new to keeping corals and started off with some SPS. I started dosing a week ago and had a .2 dkh per day consumption. I’m dosing about 750ml of kalkwasser to maintain 8.5 dkh. This past week my alk has been at a stable 8.5.

I bought 2 sps frags yesterday and measured my alk today and noticed that my alk is measuring at 8.3 instead of 8.5. Obviously this is because of the new corals but I’m not sure how I can accommodate for this. Do I need to stop dosing and recalculate the consumption? What do I do

I can’t see, two new frags affecting Alk.
I’d just keep testing to see what the “trend” is.

Results from testing can flux a bit with hobby grade testing kits, let’s be sure that the decrease, is constant.

Just increase the daily dose. :)

You can use this calculator. I would not change the dose yet, just keep it steady and do more tests until you get a longer term trend. Then figure out how much it’s dropping per day and increase daily dose to match the drop.

For example, if you find your long term trend is dropping 0.2 dKH per day, just calculate the amount of kalkwasser required to raise your dKH by 0.2. The calculated volume will be your increase in daily dose.

so should i stop dosing kalk until i find the consumption or continue dosing and finding consumption from there

Continue dosing. The decline you measure is the additional dose you can add to what you are dosing now

I’d recommend you do nothing different and wait 2 days to see how much alk has dipped. Divide that drop by two and that’s your new daily dosage requirement.

I like using this link for my Kalkwasser calculator:

Note: Ensure you dose less Kalkwasser than what you evaporate.
