How do torch corals grow ?

Idk I don’t think it’s a pest anemone ,check this picture out guys.....

I have a branching hammer that has quite a few like that sprouting off.

That’s great ! This is a pretty exotic torch I have so I’m glad it’s doing well.

It’s growing fast so I’m doing something right. I just never thought that this is how a torch grows.

I've heard of that happening to fungia. It wouldn't surprise me if that happened with a torch.

Me too but this has me baffled , makes me wonder how many corals have this ability and should we leave things that we consider dead in the tank be in hope that a miracle happens.

I had a hammer frag that had polyp bail out due to too much flow. I left the skeleton laying on the sand bed and it started sprouting new heads all along the skeleton. Currently have 9 tiny new heads growing. I would imagine a torch could do the same.

That’s interesting, now I’m feeling dumb for throwing away “dead” coral. So it seems like torches can bud and split heads to reproduce, I wonder if pinching heads uses less energy so we see that more often in these corals.

I noticed a tiny little bud on one of my hammers last night as well

They absolutely bud off the main stem. I’ve even fragged them to see if it would survive and it did. I feel like the buds take forever to grow, at least for me.

This is hands down the rarest torch I’ve ever seen/owned , it’s half purple and half green split right down the middle.

Sure here you go , kinda hard to see because of the purple tentacles but that is one head half purple half green, some of the tentacles towards the center have purple stripes. Got it from corals.com according to them this was the only one they could get and they don’t know when or if their supplier will release more.
