Hurrican Katrina Anniversary

Today marks the 2nd year anniversary of when Kartina hit the gulf shore. I went down there and volunteered to help with the clean up efforts. It has been a long and hard trek to get life back to something close to normal but it's still far from that for many many families.

I wanted to put this out there for the members of this forum, members of all forums and people who arent fortunate enough to have the luxury of the internet that live in the detroyed areas that Americans have not forgotten about you and still wish you the very best and that you continue your fight to get things back on track.

I lived in N.O. for 9 1/2 years and just left there in 2003. When I see the pictures of the devastation, it makes me cry. So many good people lived (notice the past tense) in that city. I still do not know what happened to a dear friend of mine who lived in one of the most heavily damaged areas. I know she did not leave because she had an elderly, disabled aunt who lived with her. All any of us can do is pray and hope that all efforts are made to make that wonderful city living and vibrant again.

My wife is from Gulfport, so we have been down there frequently (before and since). Some areas are starting to look like they are working towards being normal, but it'll take years before things recover the vast deserts of broken concrete. Just one town west of Gulfport on Hwy 90 (a little closer to where it came ashore, but not much), there are still huge piles of debris lining 90. I was there the Christmas after the storm and it looked like a bombing site...
