Ich or velvet?

I noticed my yellow tang has white spots and white patches on the skin and I was wondering if this is ich or velvet, thank you in advance for the help.

That’s not velvet. It’s either ich or mucus plugs. Seeing some spots on the fins tells me this is ich.

You’ll need to treat all exposed fish away from all corals an invertebrates with either chelated copper or hyposalinity. I can walk you through those treatments if you wish.

First step is for you to decide which treatment you want to use. The copper treatment is listed as part of our general quarantine guidelines:


Hyposalinity isn’t used as often, but it can be less expensive, and doesn’t contaminant rocks with copper. The outline for that is here:
