Good morning,

The coral you're seeing in the photos is a Montipora digitata encrusting hybrid. What makes it interesting is that it appears to be a mix of Montipora digitata (the finger-like branches) and Montipora capricornis or undata (the encrusting base). The encrusting tissue is vibrant and has those classic bumpy nodules typical of Montipora, while the upright digitata growths show signs of recent health recovery, indicated by their pale tips starting to color back up likely new tissue growing after a period of stress or die off. Montipora species are photosynthetic SPS corals that love stable alkalinity, strong PAR lighting, and good flow. They’re sensitive to swings in nutrients and alkalinity, so the fact that this piece is coloring back up suggests your tank conditions have been improving. With continued stability, you should see those purple/lavender growth tips become more vivid and the encrusting base regain that lush, rich tone Montis are known for. Very cool and uncommon piece!

Definitely not a montipora dude. Acros can encrust laterally. This looks like a purple garf bonsai.

If you google it, you'll see that it can encrust large areas before starting vertical growth.

Lighting plays a huge factor in identification, but based on your photos it looks like this to me.
