Introducing the Hydros Maven

I’ve found that those who aren’t seeing accuracy in their tridents come down to a couple of things. Neptune reagents or poor calibration. Us ABC and do the tank water calibration. I’ve done it in 5+ tridents. All remained within spec.

I don’t believe it turns them off. It is literally a new schedule to my knowledge. The reason they don’t “allow” it is because they claim it can clog up the tubes. Which we know isn’t true.
Agree to disagree — I’ve tried many 6mos solutions and calibrated with that bottle. Anyway, don’t really care anymore, mine is good enough since I don’t panic over actual result anymore.

Please share the screenshot of your Trident schedule?

And also raises the price
Yes and no,

I already bought the launch. So I have probe ports. So if the cost of the maven would go up for added ports I’d pay extra for redundancy.

If someone had no hydros controllers and was entering into the ecosystem with the maven. Even at $1500 price (made up increase) it would be cheaper then buying an x10 or launch plus maven (current price).

To me they just make sense on this product

I would like it if they add some probe ports, adding orp, salinity, or ph to this would make sense. Idk how much tank water the maven uses, but a built in salinity prove port would help track salinity as the maven uses tank water.

Either way, as long as post-release reviews show consistent and fairly accurate results I am buying the maven.

It already is more complex, it has drive ports and sense ports.

ph / salinity fall under water parameters

Trying to be everything, everywhere, is only adding complexity that isn't needed not to mention the cost. I'm not the developer so me commenting from my desk chair isn't helping. More so when I am not using their hardware. I will stay in my lane.

Never calibrate with the bottle it comes with. Always calibrate with tank water and manual testing. I do this every reagent change (ABC every 2 months “A” and 4 months “BC”) and it’s never drifted where it was always bad when using their supplied bottles.

Here’s my schedule for half testing. I contemplated every other day calc and mag with single alk daily so i added DoW to further redline control, but I find this schedule fine long term. Runs me $2.50/month this way.

Finally someone with tried and true experience responded. Thank you! I’ve calibrated using those “calibration” bottles so will try tank water and retest instead. Kinda dumb but if this gets me closer, fine.

I’m aware if the apex schedule to turn on/off the unit. My point was why Apex didn’t just add this “feature” in their schedule - so easy to do.

Thanks again.

That’s the problem. Their calibration fluid is junk. Do the tank water method and I guarantee your trident will be within margin of error against Hanna or salifert.

No screenshot to share. I use ABC reagents and have mine test 4 times a day because it’s cheap insurance.

And I told you the reason. They said that the pinch valves/lines will dry out/clog. And if you spill the reagents and let it dry they do get sticky/nasty. But that wouldn’t happen inside the tubes in 24 hours.

So if they don’t allow it they don’t have to support it when it does clog. That’s their justification. So you can add the simple schedule to fine tune if you are really pinching penny’s on reagents.

We knew it because a couple of vendors said it, but I've been keeping up on it and as far as I've seen, Coralvue never publicly said Black Friday.

At the risk of repeating myself - but they did.

I was at CoralVue stand during RAP NY 2024 and was personally told that Thanksgiving 2024 was their goal.

Oh sorry, I thought you were asking for someone to share the custom schedule for you to use for yourself.

I'd rather them take everything off of it but the testing function to be honest with you.

The sense ports can be used for a leak detector and another sensor if needed and the 2 drive ports can be used with 2 simple dosers to dose depending on the test results if you are using it stand alone.

I think the point being made was that fewer parts and complexity means less expensive and faster to market. It sounds like they are going the opposite direction by their own admission and adding things and making it a Swiss army knife. It is called feature creep and typically a bad thing.

The improvements are not necessarily new items added but could be just different hardware that is used in the testing that give better results. It may not even be about test results but could be something that would require less maintenance on the unit from the current amount that is required. Since they have a few in use including their headquarters tank things could have come up after longer periods of use that they want to improve on before release. This is all just speculation on my part though since I have no more info on this than what has been released. So improvements may not mean more physical ports being added to the controller to do more than originally planned.

The outright said they were adding new items that required now parts for new features and indicated that it was becoming more of a "Swiss army knife" and with each day they come up with new ideas about what it can do... thus those additions were the reason for the delay instead of waiting for version 2.0 to add those features.

You don't have to speculate, they said it in the video :)

The only speculation really is how much is being added and/or if they have run into other problems (accuracy, repeatability, maintenance, or whatever)

May I ask what you are using to test the tank water that you use to calibrate the Trident? Are you using the values of your last test using the Trident, or a 3rd party test kit? If so, which one?

Thanks!

What I was trying to say is that any additions may not be a noticeable addition since the photos of them recently adding one to their own display tank look exactly like the one that was at the trade shows. It has the testing vessel and 2 drive ports, 2 sense ports and the 2 control bus ports. I would think that they would have setup the one that was the most up to date on that tank. It can have improvements and additions to the internal components and still do the same things as advertised.
