Picked up the sump today, got it into the stand and it fits like a glove, just slides between the stand legs, utilized all the available space.





The stand is designed so that the tank will sit 9” away from the wall, so the sump will stick out of the end of the stand 9” like this.

I did end up raising the UV. I was really pleased with how this worked out, I utilized the 90 brackets and drilled out the hole to accommodate the long Bolt. The center support rails drop down lower than this rail, and I was concerned that raising it this high was going to cause the UV to hit the rail…


It was soooo close!

Not a lot of progress, I’m currently planning out the plumbing and getting the flow sensors assembled. These 2” apex flow sensors are beasts, really well made.



I have 2 of them, 1 for the return line that will run via the UV, and the other was going to go on the 2nd return line that will run via the heat exchanger… this is where I need some advice, should I:

A) Keep this plan?
B) Use the 2nd flow sensor on the skimmer feed line instead?
C) Buy a 3rd flow sensor to use on the skimmer feed line?

Plan "A" is probably the easiest. I don't know if you need a flow sensor on the skimmer, but people report no end of problems with the smaller Neptune flow sensors anyway.

For those apex flow sensors make sure you seal the threads really well. They are very prone to leaking initially and it can be a pain to remove and fix.

Thanks to @Projects with Sam, the pump strainers for the return pumps work so well, and look great in white.

Starting to dismantle the current tank and pulled out this colony to give to @jda, I was pretty proud of this one, from a ebay $10 1/3” Frag to a colony almost a foot in width. Some WWC Grizzly Adams action.

Well i say you are a very generous man i appreciate all the stuff i was given today and the amount and mass of everything i got.....i got it all tanked and mounted....few top down shots for you again it was much appreciated cant wait to help get the big baddie into the basement and get you some pieces back....

Making painstakingly small progress. The old 220 gallon is officially out of the house, so now much more room to make the preparations for the new tank which should be here in early October.

Moved things around in the fish room so I could place the skimmer back where it will eventually go. I’m still planning on opening up the wall further to give better access to behind the tank.



I added several bulkheads to the sump, I did these myself as didn’t know exactly what I wanted until I got the sump into the stand.





Made my life harder as I originally did not plan to have 1/2” push connect bulkhead’s, so had to turn 2 of the 1/4” to 1/2” = very stressful, but I made this guide out of wood and clamped it in place, and it worked.

I also added another hole for a 3/4” bulkhead close to the other drains, just in case I need another return to the sump. I don’t actually need all the 1/4” and 1/2” push to connect bulkheads, but I may need them in the future, so easier to do now.

I added a 1/2” bulkhead hole above the filter socks, my plan for this is to easily connect a pump/vac to, so I can easily clean out the sump.



I also added these holes that I’ll use place apex probes.


I also created these dividers in the sump, I wanted the ability to isolate fish or raise fish that are too small to go in the display. Used the table saw and created slots in strips that are glued on either side, then put holes in all the dividers so water can easily flow through.




Okay, so I gave all my SPS away, but I wanted to keep all my fish and my LPS, so here is there temporary home for the next 2-3 months…

Well after seeing ur valentini doing well had to grab one guy was breaking down his tank had one that has done great with all corals was sad to part with it but gave me a shout needless to say as of last night I was able to acquire a Valentini Puffer super excited to have him and hopefully he does just as well as yours has done in your mix Reef
