Is this bulb defective?

I was installing a new MH bulb in my light fixture when i noticed something on the bulb. The oval part on the inside of the bulb, has a red tint to it. It looks like a dye or whatever. It covers almost half of the side facing the tank, opposite the exhaust tip. Can i use this bulb? Bob.

is it a 14k or 20k bulb?

It's a 14000k. I ran the bulb for about 15mins, and when i turned it off the tint was gone. When the bulb cooled down, it came back. I guess it can be used.
