What am i looking at here? I tossed this frag in about 3 months ago and haven't messed with it because i haven't decided if this tank is going to be its permanent resting site or not. Walked in last night and this stuff is on it and I'm about 90% sure it wasn't there on Friday.

That's definitely a sponge. The good news is it doesn't appear to be affecting the Zoas. The bad news is it has a good possibility that it'll choke those Zoas out.

As far as removal, I'd try taking the Zoas out of the tank and exposing them to air for a minute or 2. After that, try gently picking the sponge out from between the Zoas and then rinse good.

Another option to try is hydrogen peroxide dip (not full strength - diluted). Look up hydrogen peroxide dip corals and there's a dilution strength and time that's coral dependent. Zoas are generally more tolerant so it's a blessing in disguise that it's on a Zoa frag.

That's sponge and it's been there for a while. You may or may not have noticed it before. You can carefully scrape it off the zoas or you can do a quick dip (30 seconds) with 50/50 peroxide and use a toothbrush to get most of it off. Just be gentle.

**JINX** you owe me a coke!

You guys are awesome I appreciate it.
Next question is what % hydrogen peroxide should i be using? Standard 3% or 10% I have 10% that I use for my filter socks but i can run and grab some 3% if needed. For the price of hydrogen peroxide id rather just use the right product instead of screwing up my ratios

Go with 3%.

I’d get a linckia star fish . I had the black sponge and couldn’t find anything to take care of of it without messing up the tank . I think it was the Sixed day from when I put it in and it finally found the patch which was taken over the tank , it took about two to three weeks and it cleaned it out .

Linkia sp. are best left in the ocean, IMO. More often than not, home aquaria is a death sentence for them, where they slowly starve to death.

Maybe , but I’ve gotten him on eating a Masstick 14 solution on a shell that I put in the tank . First I mix up then put it on a shell and let it dry on the shell for a day , put the shell in and put him on it . Twice I’ve went to the pet shop and picked him up a rock that had sponge on it and was only charge a couple of bucks .
