Is this too many fish??

Hi everyone,

I currently have a innovated marine 112ext tank.
I’ve always love corals and the look of fish swimming in a reef tank. But I’m not sure if this is okay and would like people opinion on this subject. Is 35 fish okay for a 35x35 x 19 tank?
Currently below are the list of fish I had in there.
- 2 mated percs clowns
- 2 baby orange perc
- yellow tang 4 inch
- blue hippo 5 inch
- 10 lyertail anthias
- 8 blue chromis
- 6 chromis
-1 blue spot goby
-1 yellow watchman goby
-1 flame angel
-1 yellow clown goby
-1 flame hawk
-1 long nose hawk fish.
- 1 mandarin goby
I do feed a bit and my nitrate are around 15-20 ppm.

Tanks been running for almost a year and half.

Awesome tank! Seems like a lot of fish for 100gal but how’s the aggression level in the tank? Do the tangs seemed cramped? How long have the two pairs of clowns been together? I tried two pair in a 5’ - it worked for 1 year. Sorry for the non-answer - I guess I stock my tanks based on feel.

I think its OK - I have a 80 G with that amount of fish. IMO - its not so important how many fish there is - the importance is the size and which nish they occupy. You have a lot of pelagic fish and the Pseudanthias squamipinnis will grow to over 10 cm (4"). If you are going to get more - you should probably go for rock living and bottom living fish. Your tangs and Anthias may take upp most of the free water but as long as you do not see the aquarium as a bouillabaisse - its good IMO. If the fish not thrive - then it will solve itself.

There are semi aggression between the mated pair and the one of the other clown fish. But they just pushed the one away. The other one they baby it. Kinda strange behavior. Tanga looks good I had a giant blue tail damsel that I removed that was picking on the blue hippo. Other than that everyone has their own parts of the tank they stay in unless feeding time. Lol

Thank you. I’m not getting fish. The only one I might add is a few more yellow clown goby which is kinda cool looking in a group and I think they only get as big as 1”-2”

I'd say you're likely good. Nutrient export might be more important with a higher bioload but only 15-20 nitrates is a good level so it's working.

The only "bigger" fish are your tangs so most of your fish have a lower bioload on the tank anyway.

I agree with @Lasse and @tbrown .
As mentioned, if it gets too crowded nature will take over and reduce the number.
Your tank looks great by the way!

I would say a few too many fish. Of course they will live in there. I have that many fish but my tank is 6' long and I feel mine is a little too crowded.
