It took several weeks to locate my only isopod that I have in my tank. I have fish and snails so a predator isopod would be a NO. I have read that the non-predator isopods can curl up in a ball. It is shown in the fourth photo curled in a ball. I would like to know if there are any predator isopods that can curl up in a ball. I'm guessing the answer is no. I also read that the non-predators have smaller eyes and that the eyes are spaced farther apart -- almost on the sides of their heads. Relatively speaking, I'm guessing that this isopod's eyes are farther apart than the predator cousins. I would hate to get rid of a Sphaeromatid Isopod, but I don't want any Cirolanids feeding on my fish or snails. Right now the isopod is in an isolation tank

I believe this to be a preditory isopod.
Looks like Aegid from the 4 antenna.
But could still be Cirolanid. My eyes arent as good as they used to be looking at small blurred photos lol.

Looks like his days are numbered! Believe it or not, I didn't post my blurry photos. Taking a closer look at some photos on the internet, my isopod's eyes seem closer together than I had first thought. I am posting this photo from r2r of a Sphaeromatid I found this morning. The eyes seem farther apart. I wish I had a better camera with a macro lens.

I added better lighting, changed from small to large setting on my camera and then cropped each photo. He is about 1/4" long.

Argh! I just found this image on reefkeeping magazine and realized that the isopods having antenna are predatory. I wanted to keep my isopod, but not anymore.
