Never knew that. Pretty cool thanks for sharing, I'll have to try that one time.SPS frags that encrust first tend to make better colonies as they have wide base. I have had success putting frags as high as possible in the tank after acclimated on the rock it will live permanent. After the frag encrusts I will then move the rock down in the tank a little and it then immediately exhibits upward growth. I have attached a pic for reference. The original frag was on the bottom right side of the pic and hardly can be seen as it started as a nub. I had no vertical growth at all and the Bali acted like a plating monti for months while at the very top of the tank. When moved 16 inches down the coral popped up many verticals. If you wait and leave the coral up top for its life it will also eventually go vertical but usually after if finally touches another coral from plating. HTH and only my experiences.
