I know it’s a gamble keeping angelfish in a reef tank. I have a coral beauty right now in my reef and she has been super peaceful with everything I have in there. I just really really want a queen angel, Is it the same level of risk as the coral beauty or is the queen angel just a no go all together and don’t bother? I see LFS’s keeping large angels in reefs so why can’t I?

What corals do you plan to keep?

Queen Angels get HUGE, you know? So if it decides to get 'hungry' for your coral, now we're talking big bites! Lol!

They have a better chance of eating corals than say a coral beauty or a flame angel. Especially if you have a lot of sps and lps.
Right now the only lps I have are two Duncan frags, the rest of my coral is soft

It's just a big gamble, and even riskier in a smaller tank relative to size. Sometimes angels just get bored, and try something. But once they get a taste for it, they will continue to obliterate it until your life savings are gone. All that to say: You "could" try it, but I wouldn't personally if you really care for your coral (I personally think that the angels are worth the risk tho).

hope this helps :)

I appreciate the insight and advice!:) I guess I’ll just have to suffer and get another tank that’s FOWLR lol

I just re-did one of my FOWLRs as a Buttery tank. They love their mussels and clams!

What's everyone's thoughts on a queen angel in an anemone dominant reef? What are the odds my anemones would be safe?

I don't think it's a very good odds.

If I had to estimate it: Angelfish - Lots of wiggling anenomes, (beautiful tank btw)

Your odds are prolly like 8.5/10 nipping happens. But I also always go all in on green when I play roulette so I am in no position to talk.

Thanks for the reply! I'm going to risk it with a really tiny juvenile, (if can find one), for a while and see what happens. I've got a good fish trap if need be.
