What about a simple piece of angled cardboard / stiff paper that can be spray painted once you forgive out the correct angle / configuration?

We did this on a job site to a motion detector that was picking up motion in a hall.

Can moving it lower than the 6 1/2" above the water do any damage to corals higher up near the surface?

I have a 90g mixed reef, no sps yet though. The tank has a center brace and the lights are centered in the 2 halves. I have the 2 light fixtures connected through the X controller. I have the lights 6 1/2" from the top of the water.

My issue is the light bleeds way over the front of the tank. To the point that my 4 month old sons swing that is 6 feet away facing the tank, the light would hit him right in the face.

Should I lower the lights even more? Should I back them up toward the wall though they would no longer be centered?

You can probably lower the light an extra 2 to 3 inches. The lenses on the kessil are pretty wide, so they do not create as much of a hot spot as some other LED lights might. Thus, you shouldn't have to worry about it hurting any corals you have. However, if you have corals half way up or higher in the tank, you may want to compensate and reduce the intensity and then increase the intensity back up over several days. Always better to be safe and slow when it comes to lighting changes

I definitely used acclimation mode. These things are bright.

I'll post pics of my hood when it's finished. It's very small. I think it'll look good. I'm old school and always ran a full canopy so this isn't going to hurt my feelings. Besides my tank isn't rimless.

I'd agree with lower and/or use the gooseneck if it gets it centered. Also, check the BRS video.... they also said the lense spread is so wide and even the recommended them much lower than they normally do. Mine are like 4" or so over the water.

I have the same setup on my tank with the same issue.

I was setting them to high using the old remended hight for leds, then i watched the brs video on the lights and they called out that you can have them lower cause of their lenses.

So i lowered them to not have as much spill outside the tank and the corels loved it.

I do wish they had a attachable cowling though. At certian angles you can still see the lights directly. But i found that we have gotten use to it.
