Interested in these lights. I will probably wait for some more testing before deciding if I want these.
I wonder if 3 can cover a 180 SPS tank?

Hey all,

I have been out of the hobby for about 8 years, time flies. Any way, if some of you remember me I was one of the first users of Kessil in a reef tank and used to post about them a lot.

I am currently setting up a new system utilizing a 40 cube and a brand new Kessil A500X that I just received the other day.

I am working on either a Seneye or an Apogee to measure par. I have it set to about 35% intensity right now with the 55 degree reflector. It is about 14 inches off the top of the water.

All I currently have in the tank is a mated pair of Bali Aquarich Helmet Premium Picasso Perculas and a green BTA.

I will adjust and read par as the days go on.

The Kessil A500X is made very well if course and the mounting arm is top quality. I will be adding any SPS and some hammers, etc. Will attach a couple of pics until I get the tank more established.

Nearly $800 and no built in WiFi. Can someone help me please justify that?
I have a 250wt HQI and set up the A500x next to it. The A500x is just as bright as the metal halide. Finally Kessil has hit a home run!

How would you describe the difference in shimmer between the two?

A comparison video would be nice! :)

For a 300G DD how many would be needed for a heavy SPS tank wall to wall? I have 6xT5 + 3 corona rapid LED fixtures, I could mix the LEDs maybe?

I would go with 6. If you look at SPS dominant 300DD tanks lit with other 180w lights they usually use 6. A great example would be Mike Paletta's old 300DD lit with 6 XR30s

How is this build doing at this point?

I’m starting build with a bit of a unique tank (36”x36”x18” deep) which will be LPS dominant. I’ve always run AI Hydras on other tanks but want to try a A500x. Do you think I can light this tank on 1?

currently have the 4 neptune sky with radion 3g (5) over my 91 x 31 x 31 sps tank.. the neptune sky's are starting to fail. was thinking of replacing those 4 neptune skys with kessil 500 x blue tuna's. I would mount them about 24 inches above and use th 35 degree reflectors.

Thought and comments please.. I

Bummer that the SKYs got canceled as a result of the merger. In any case I like Kessil's and they are a decent choice but not sure the spread will be the same. Even if mounted high.

Have you looked at the Atlas? May provide a wider spread at a lower cost although I cannot say on overall quality. I know another hobbyist who is in a similar boat as those of us using SKYs and that was their replacement choice.
