Quick pic of Buckshot and an anemone at night: 9/15/20. Used a yellow filter + blue gel over the flash.

Tank update: 11/24

Got a little irritated at the big rock on the right hand side, which holds my anemones. So I decided to break it up a bit, to help free up some space and not make it look as “out of place”. The nems weren’t the happiest when I was smashing the rock, but think they’ll all pull through. Below is a quick shot the morning after the renovation.

12/21

getting a clam tomorrow, so made some room on the sandbed. FTS below from 12/11. I trimmed up the green monti cap that was on the sandbed / glued a small bit on top of the red Monti cap (let’s see what happens) also glued a small bit to the back wall (not visible from the front). The rest went on the frag rack I also moved the green goni to the right side and pushed the red goni back just a little bit

I ended up moving a rock on to the left of the Acan Echinata because it kept on pressing up against the glass. And moved the red Goni a little bit, it seems to be a little irritated from its move at the moment.

I also ended up ordering a clam over the weekend from Clam Mania; they threw in a bonus clam and I think they’re doing well for the time being.

6 months of growth, of the first Acro (and sps) that was added to the tank - not sure on what flavor of acro this is, was from a local club buy.

Amazing tank, that nem is stunning.

How do you find the auqua shield uv? thinking of getting one for occasional use, if you are still running yours, do you run it 24/7?

The All for reef would you say the doser is needed?

Thank you!

I am still running the UV, I like to think it works. I took it offline for a couple weeks and noticed more film algae on the glass, so I ended up putting it back online after swapping out the IM Skimmer for an Eshopps NanoSkim - which I also like to believe was a solid upgrade.

All for Reef, I wouldn’t say a doser is needed. I have a buddy who is just doing his manually ATM until his demand increases. I’d recommend a doser though, (the kamora X1 is like $50 - actually used a gift card from last years Secret Santa to get it - Thanks again Dan!). Having the doser just makes things a little easier, my tank is currently getting 7mL of All for Reef a day right now - I think I’d mess it up too often if I personally did it manually.

Well, unfortunately the clams ended up dying. I’m not sure what caused them to go south, as they looked pretty good during the day. But on two separate occasions, I had found them knocked over with my nassarius snails going to town on them. Maybe I’ll have more success next time ‍♂️.

Additionally, I hope to be making a light upgrade soon. I ended up getting a 24inch LED bar with 450/470nm LEDs. This will be a supplement light for my AI Prime 16HD (which actually is in the process of being replaced via warranty - the UV diodes caused the plastic lens to melt - known issue, but shouldn’t be an issue for a light less than 1 year old, but I digress).

I will be measuring the new light to ensure I’m not burning my corals with a PAR meter. I plan on hanging this light from a shelf above my tank, and then putting a small skirt around the shelf to turn it into a quasi floating canopy - hopefully.
