I´ve been thinking of getting my second reef tank and decided to make it a lagoon style tank but I´ve some questions regarding livestock. First, here are the measurements for the tank: (5 foot x 10.6 in x 13.7 in) OR (155cm x 27cm x 35cm). My two choices were a mandarin (spotted or blue/red) and a yellow clown goby because I want it to be peaceful. Then I thought of adding a tomini tang to help with algae control and because I love their colors. Would the fish work together in my tank?

Another question is in case the tang is a no-go, could a spotted and a blue mandarin co-exist peacefully in such a large tank? What other unique fish suggestions do you have? Preferably peaceful, reef safe and wont go after inverts as I plan on keeping sexy and blood shrimp as well as an anemone crab. Just to clarify, I havent bought anything apart from the tank and some sand, just trying to clarify some things. Thanks in advance :)

As long as you have enough pods for the mandarin all those fish should be fine.

You got tons of options for fish. I think a couple of clowns, a dwarf angel, pistol shrimp pair, and some type of flasher wrasse would be some good options.

Having a 3 foot shallow myself (90cm(l) x 30cm(w) x 25cm(h)) your dimensions sound like a dream setup!

My question is are you going to run with a sump or as an AIO style. The reason I ask is because I am running mine as an AIO with minimal filtration in the back chamber and with the height you have mentioned it can be difficult to find equipment i.e. skimmer that fit nicely and work well with such a shallow depth.

Fish stocking though leaves you with countless options. A nice hawkfish is always a go to for me.

If you were to add a fish to the mandarin, clown goby and tomini tang. Which would it be? (except for clowns)

Its an AIO. I´m okay with not having a skimmer though. Really my only concern is the livestock. Could I ask you about your favorite fish? or inverts?

I am a big fan of creating a supportive eco system.

Nothing crazy something like the following:

Inverts
Snails
Urchin (when there is enough algae)

Fish
Valentini saddle for puffer (great character)
Flame hawkish (if you have nice perches amongst coral)
Blue/green chromis or Bangaii cardinal (schooling element)
Goby and shrimp

I am not saying put all of these fish in the aquarium, but it may open up a new line of thought on your stock list.

At the end of the day we all know what fish light us up and love to see in our ecosystems.

Peace ✌️

Matt
