I found 2 240 tanks for 200 dollars. Is that a good deal, all I need to do I hire a moving company to move the tanks. This would be sick to do 1 fresh and 1 salt. I also have 2 75s sitting around empty from petcos 50% off. I got the for 72 dollars each. They would be perfect sumps.

You need to call around to get quotes because someone just had their 210g moved and it was around $700.

Used tanks are cheap but large used tanks are even cheaper because people want them gone due to the difficulty of just moving them.

Where does everyone buy these large aquariums I keep seeing? I'm not buying rn, maybe in 5 years or something, but do all these people spend 5-6k just on the tank and stand or is there a place people buy it for like 1k it seems like alot of people have these tanks too. I'm talking about 250+

I buy cross country having it freight delivered to me but occasionally you will see others getting out or downsizing

I think the main pain in the butt thing would be moving 240g of glass. That’s like 700 lbs going down stairs, at least it’s not up.

A 125g is 340 lbs so the weight increase is significant.

We have people who helped move the tank last time, it took 1 guy and me to move it, there are 3 of them and they do construction for a living. He said it was nothing so I'm assuming the 4 of them can carry it, also I don't plan on getting one this month, not even 6 months, closer to a year.

It all adds up fast. Even buying dry rock and sand for a 240g.

240 lbs of the cheap reef saver dry rock (on sale) is over $700

As others mentioned- a search. Search Facebook marketplace, craigslist, local clubs

It’s a lot heavier than your 125g but if you have free labor that’s different than paying movers :)

Well, I'm placing my future tank in the corner of my living room. In order to do this it has to be an odd size (48x38x25). I'm going through Glass Cages to have this built (with bells and whistles). It's gonna run me (with stand) $6100. The price for a future piece of art.

That size would be about 198g. 48 x 38 x 25 / 231= 197.4. figure out the cubic inches by multiplying the 3 dimensions and divide by how many cubic inches in a gallon. Now you know :)

It is understood that bigger tanks make for smaller swings in chemistry. But bigger tanks mean much more work than the smaller tanks.

I didn't consider that when I purchased my first "big" tank. I wish I had. I learned the hard way.

If I were to do it again, I'd have multiple 40 gallon breeders plumbed together.

Yes, much can be automated.

But I wouldn't automate at first. While I feel automation has its place in the hobby, I also feel it creates a disconnect between the reef keeper and their tank(s).

As a beginner, I would do things manually to learn and understand the processes you are want to automate. Then automate down the road.

This isn't a "set it and forget it" hobby.

Lucky you. A reef ready 200 gallon tank with a stand and a sump.

I’ve found plenty of tanks free on FB market place in my area. My upgrade tank, CADE S2 2100, is brand new. I’m not risking that much in livestock and equipment for a potential fault in a used tank. I know new tanks can have faults too but I feel more comfortable with new. Plus if you find a problem during your initial water tests with a new tank it can be easier for the tank to be replaced.
