Yup, 2 T5s I would be surprised if they drowned out the LEDs. I will make a video shortly to show the shimmer I get.

Just made a short one real quick... It has shimmer but it's totally different than a halide since there is so many focal points like my fixture has 150 different bulbs shimmering compared to 2 large mh bulbs... Might take a minute for the video to work....

I've also run two different manufactured fixtures at this point and neither of them get "hot". I could hold both in my hands indefinitely without getting burned...

also the shimmer is nothing like a radium and you won't get that with leds...:( a radium is one big light source that throws a awesome shimmer the leds give you millions of small ones it's a totally different look honestly.... i would try to find a lfs or local friend with led's to look at before making the switch...

You can get a lot more shimmer if you group your lights into "pods" rather than distributing them evently.

troy are your fans pushing or pulling??
at full intensity on any of my fixtures when the fans are running my fingers will heat up the fixture before the LEDs themselves. I keep the big fixture around 82degrees

You always want your fans pushing the air. The cooling efficiency is a lot better that way.

Lee are you using fans on the fixture now? I know before you were not? Mine gets hot but I can still leave my fingers on it for long time.... So I guess I would say warm not hot.

Assuming that you have good contact between the LEDs and the heatsink and you can still keep your finger on it, you are probably fine. However, be sure that it is not relatively cool because the LEDs aren't transferring the heat well! IIRC, you used thermal paste in yours? I assume you used a very tiny amount per LED?

I run 2 AquaIllumination leds on my 70 gal cube. I have had other LED fixtures that have had good reviews on this forum, however if you want the most quiet fans and the broadest specktrum led, by far its AI!!!! I can go from a 6000k specktrum to beyond 20k and its completely adjustable. I have the Royal blue, cant remember the exact name, LEDs and I love them! If your not into DIY and your budget allows take a good look at AquaIllumination set up!!

Excellent video of how easy they are to control. What whites are you using, they look pretty yellow? I have my Apex set up with 3 of my favorite settings- a 10,000K look, a 14,000K look and a 20,000K look. I normally keep mine on in the middle setting.

cool whites, as you adjust the power to leds they perform on a different spectrums.

Could this be brand dependent? I have spectral data from a wide variety of LED colors and whites from work I did at a National Laboratory... and did not get this variability in white spectra...

What was the LED type? its possible at low wattage LEDs due to their minimal power consumption there is minimal spectral shift.
