Led light on Refugum

I am 14 and I am getting some chaeto for my Refugum and they need light so I got a regular led light and lamp for the Refugum... Do you leave the light on all the time? It is open so will water evaporate onto the fixture and start a fire? Is there a way to prevent that? Where do you place it?

Reed, no problem placing it directly over the refugium...up 6 to 12 inches or so. Shouldn't be a problem as far as moisture forming on the fixture. I believe some leave it on all the time, but I was always 10 -12 hours a day. The one issue with your bulb is to make sure it is 5000 to 6500 kelvin. That's the ideal "temperature" for good algae growth.

But eventually flipped it out for a box because I was afraid the clip on would fall into the water.

Sorry my sumo is a mess right now... But would clipping on the side of the sump work?
