I wouldn't call the LED fixtures out there higher technology. Cost to manufacture these things isnt as much as alot of people think. They are just marked up 100%

I was referring to the Apex and the components needed to make an LED light compatible with it as being a higher technology, not the light itself, but if you compare an LED with a candle, LEDs are a much higher technology, it just depends on how you look at it :)

I work in a factory, I understand mark-up and I agree, most of the products on the market today could be sold for less, but then the CEOs of these big companies might have to drive a Mazda instead of the Mercedes LOL

Those Pacific suns look sexy but not much info on their site about the leds. Im getting a pretty good deal on another unit but if that falls trough the Evergrow IT2040 Looks to have tons of functionality and colors built in.

I have an EverGrow IT2040 over my 70g hexagon anemone tank and after 1 year, it's never given me a single issue. The color range is great and the controller has worked 100% with out issue, even after power outages... well, I do have to turn off the LCDs after a power outage. But I just use that as an indicator that there has been a power outage while I was away and then look over the entire system. And as happy as I am with the light, my nems and 1 sps coral in there seem real happy! :thumb:

I've not seen or heard much about the pacific suns but the Evergrow lights have built quite a reputation for reliability in the last couple years, and have definitely proved the ability to grow coral, I think you'll be surprised at how well they are built, the built in controller doesn't have all the fancy options that your Apex has but I believe it has everything a reefer would need for an awesome light system, the hand held remote control would be pretty slick too, I don't know many men who don't love a good remote controller :)

the LCD controller display lights come on automatically and you have to turn them off if you don't want 'em on, after a power outage they are automatically reactivated...least I think that is what he is saying :)

Actually if you go domestic it is lot less than 100%....Seriously...

As far as technology its more common sense... Thermal management is low technology but is huge when you triple the mass of the the heatsink and provide fans rated for 50,000 Hours.

Import fixtures are the first to cut Thermal Management as this saves them huge...

Very incorrect! It is just like any quality electronics. High development costs, material costs, labour costs, quality control. Of course, if one is simply copiing someone elses work,, uses crap materials, out of date LEDs, etc. you can certainly cut costs and maximise your profit. Any there are plenty of people who do not wish to pay for the product they need, rather purchase the wrong item 3 times.

In the end, you still get what you pay for. Before you make such sweeping statement, get a few facts!

That is it exactly. I turn the LCD displays off because they light up the fabric front of my canopy at night. So after a power outage, the LCDs come back on automatically. So when I come home and the LCDs are on, I know I've had a power outage. And here in SW Florida during the rainy season (6 months), thunderstorms are an almost every other afternoon occurrence. And as often as not, they are small but severe... thunder, lightning and an inch of rain in 10 minutes!

Cool thanks guys. Yea I used to live in central Florida and had to keep setting the clocks on appliances after every thunder storm. Which was often!

the controller saves all the settings, it's just its illumination that you have to reset

I have a radion gen2 over my 60gallon and I like it very much. I would have no problem getting another one if something happened to this one. I just started a smaller 29gallon and went with the ai sol nano due to cost. I could not justify spending the cost of the radion on such a small tank. A lot will come down to personal preference and the look you want.

I run 2 AI Hydras over my 90 rimless (48" wide) and I could not be happier. Set me back almost a grand with the controller but the result is amazing. Incredible shimmer and controllability. In addition I have seen really great growth.

not quite as purple in person as they look in the photos, but because you can control each color channel you can create any look you want.

I know this is an old thread, but if you're still looking if recommend Apollo led 5000. I run one over my biocube and I'm ordering two more for my 55. These lights are priced fairly, controllable by apex, and give off excellent par. I could not be happier with my light. Clams, anemones and sps all love it.
