I’m having trouble keeping a Lemonpeel Angel alive for more than a month or two. In the last year I’ve lost two that were happily acclimated and eating. I’m stumped as to what is causing them to die.
This is a 90 gallon tank with 3 other fish: 2 yellow tail blue damsels and a Tomini tang. I never saw aggressive behaviors between these fish and the Angel.
Both Angels that I tried (one after the other with a gap of a few months in between) started out eating fine and being very active in the tank. The first one lived for 5+ months while the second lived for only 1 month. Tank parameters were tested and I don’t see anything out of whack there:
Temp: between 78 and 80 degrees F
Specific gravity: 1.025
PH: 8.1
NH 3/4: undetectable
NO2: undetectable
NO3: undetectable
Alk: 9 dkh
CA: 380 ppm
PO4: 0
They have been consistent like this over the course of a year or more. All other fish are fine and show no signs of stress. They’ve been in the tank for over 2 years.
I feed a variety of mostly frozen foods including Emerald Entree (omnivore formula), mysis shrimp, blood worms, plankton, brine shrimp and the occasional clam from the deli counter. The latter is usually a hit with all of the fish.
Perhaps I’m feeding too sparingly because I only feed once a day? Could it be the Angel needs more frequent feedings than the other fish.
Appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.
Thanks.
