@evolved, thank you for the ID. Unfortunately, it looks like I made a mistake based on your compatibility chart. I have a McCoskers flasher as well as the C. Filamentosus in my acclimation box. I was hoping to add a couple of other flashers or fairies to go into my 180 gallon tank as well. Since the filamentosus is aggressive, should I take him back? What would you do?
Is it the first Cirrhilabrus you are addiing to the 180? If so I would wait to add last of the wrasses if you really want it or return it. I would not add it first and then add others.

Unfortunately, order won't matter with filamentosus. It's a time bomb any way you slice it.

Yeah, unfortunately that one never plays well with others. Don't add it if you have or want flashers.
Dang. I was afraid you’d say that. I should have ID’d him before I bought him. The LFS sold him as a red (something) flasher wrasse..

I was going to add both the c. Filamentosus and McCoskers flasher to the tank. It looks like I’ll add the flasher, but take the other back.

Both this species and rebeus often get labeled as "flashers".
(never fully trust an LFS)

I’m guessing ( hoping) that either me or the LFS would have had a better shot with a correct ID if it was terminal.

Of course, but to a trained eye there are easy differences.
Had this fish been a juvi, the hard distinction would have come down to C. filamentosus or C. rubripinnis. ;)

I know many fairy wrasses are hard to distinguish as juveniles and female , but my uneducated guess is a juvi Cirrhilabrus Brunneus.

Yeah, agree. There's enough development there to make that call now.

Can anybody help pinpoint the origin of my fish? Please give reason why. I think I can narrow it down to western Pacific. I would love to have a more specific, narrower region. TIA

The lack of pink on the body make it of the exquisitus group ranging from Indonesia Eastward. The fin coloring identify it as an Indonesian specimen.

Thanks TJ. I think he must come from around Bali also. Seem closest to the coloration of fish from there. This is a young male so color still changing.

This is not mine but I would like to know what kinda wrasse this is. Is it some sort of leopard wrasse, how large can it get, and is it Reef safe?

Not a leopard, but a close cousin, Xenojulis margaritaceaus. It gets to about 4".
