They’re beautiful, are they Maxima?
Nice growth.I accidentally ticked them off through blowing the cyano in my tank off the rocks and sand so I did also take the opportunity to get some growth pics. Also, my clowngoby loves using the clam as a hiding spot as he seems to hide around the maxima quite a bit when it’s open in the day.
Both are now wide open and seem happy (no gaping or anything).
Edit: Only just noticed that small white chunk of mantle on the maxima, I believe that’s due to where the mantle overlaps.
How big is that deresa? It looks beautifulClam jam!
Looks like it’s been growing 1/2 to 3/4 inch a yearHow big is that deresa? It looks beautiful
Mine shows that same pattern of the growth rings, I wonder if that’s where scutes would grow if it did have scutes.Rings
I don’t know what that is.Mine shows that same pattern of the growth rings, I wonder if that’s where scutes would grow if it did have scutes.
A scute is the ‘ledge’ that forms on most clan species however Deresa doesn’t seem to have them and is easily ID’d from other Tridacnids due to that.I don’t know what that is.
I just looked that up. The little growth ridges are called scutes. Lol the more you know. ️Mine shows that same pattern of the growth rings, I wonder if that’s where scutes would grow if it did have scutes.
Out of curiosity, how delicate were the scutes on this guy?Miss my derasa 2nd picsize in hand against glass
Slight but not delicate. Not as pronounced as other species as u know.Out of curiosity, how delicate were the scutes on this guy?
I’m assuming they’re easily broken hence why we often say this species doesn’t have scutes.
How long did you have that one. That thing was a whopper. Mine is probably half that size. And I’ve had it I wanna say 2 years nowSlight but not delicate. Not as pronounced as other species as u know.
Was Prbly 2-3 yrs when I brought it home and I had it about 2 before it went south real fast. Gape, got pronounced nxt day w mantle recession and then tore on the inhalant. This is a real addiction… I nearly came home with a third clam earlier and now I want a third again.Another maxima inbound. I think this was the pic on the website.
Their different colors and patterns play off each other. You can't stop. You will be assimilated. This is a real addiction… I nearly came home with a third clam earlier and now I want a third again.
