Not quite pups anymore at 10 years old, but these 2 have been my partners in crime since they were 8 weeks old.

They are inseparable! Bo is the tricolor (although he is loosing much of his black to grey:( ) and Lacey is the fawn. Bo is getting close to 20 pounds, so a huge chihuahua may work for you;). His parents were both 2 pounds so I'm not sure what happened to him lol.

These are my babies the first is my pug eating a candy cane lol the second is my rescue a west highland terrier or a westie. I would recommend a pug they are awsome with kids my westie is a grouch although he could be due to the fact that he was abused :oops: both are my babies tho.

They are slightly out of your ideal size range; however they are wonderfully loyal and intelligent dogs. Dobies get a bad rap as an aggressive breed, but they are really gentle friendly dogs. Actually very needy for affection and training. They love learning and pleasing. My grandparents fostered children for many years and kept a downs child and a severe cerebral palsy child that developed schizophrenia later in life. They both love the dogs and both of the dogs are very gentle and understanding of the attention they get from them. I will not get any other breed after owning my first dobie.

Dobies are one of my favorite breeds ;) beautiful dogs!

Contact some local reputable rescues. Tell them what you are looking for and ask if they have anything suitable.

Both mine came from rescue.

Sera, Malinois/shepherd and Bruno, Dutch shepherd ( I do not recommend either breed for you!)

We rescued a 9 month old Mini Aussie 3 months ago. We sent him to a really good trainer that used to train shepherds for the military/police and is now retired and does it locally for individuals. He came back much better and knows several commands but he's still highly destructive and has to be watched 24/7. One second he's fine, the next, he's destroying something. I'm sure this is something that he'll grow out of but buyer beware. Aussies are an extremely active breed that require constant attention/work or they will just go crazy on you (so to speak).

We love our dog and would never desert him, but life is much more stressful with him in our lives. He can easily push our 2 and 4 year old kids around and (gently) nip when excited and in "herding" mode.

Just know that they are fun and ultra smart dogs, but require a HIGHLY committed owner.
