Let's talk about the hanna meters....

If I'm not mistaken both the pocket meters and older larger ones have a margin of error of .04 so that is possible. That is why I am always happy when I get a reading of .03 cause if it is 0.00, .03, or .07 it really doesn't matter since it is in the range I am shooting for.

Agreed... But I don't want zeros across the board to be honest.. I want to raise my levels to get some color... A true 0.00 is not beneficial for reef tanks... Btw I have been dosing amino acids like crazy and now I have hair algae on my frag plugs again with a reading of 0.00 still... I think the margin of error is what jcom found with his regents .20 or so....

You guys get readings of 0, I have never once got a reading of zero.

Do you have any friends close by that own one you could borrow and try them side by side??? Maybe you got a good one and we all got junk.... Lol

Arrrrrr... Can't post the email... This site has errors with percent signs and equal signs etc... Anyways he said he don't see anything out of the normal... And said for a better reading we should invest in the ppb meter... Parts per billion meter....:(

Here is a kicker he mentions...
At 0.00 ppm the error margin is plus or minus .04
At 1.00 ppm the error margin is plus or minus .08
At 2.00 ppm the error margin is plus or minus .12
Etc etc etc... I'm so confused.... I replied to his email and asked a few questions and asked if we could have a rep over here to answer questions..

Okay he said yes we need to use the same vial...
No we don't have to mark them... Cleaning them very well is the only important thing... And the sample is only good as long as it states in the instructions... Anyways he gave me a email for Jessica, who is the rep on rc. I'm gonna see if she will come over and answer questions....;)

Just tested my meter on NYC tap water against Salifert and my old API kit. All 3 were pretty much in agreement. The salifert was somewhere between 1 and 3 (it looks a darker blue in pic cuz I had to put it down to take photo) . The API was in between 1 and 2.

What I like most of all is that their answer well just buy another one that is a little different how about they just stand behind their product and make this right and fix the problem and either give us our money back, give us a new meter, or anything I called out the rep over on RC last night we'll see if anything happens

I agree 100% When I had HA issues I was using test kits and kept getting zero on ALL of them. I eventually came across the older Hanna meter used and jumped on it. My first reading was .29! I just like to keep mine under .07 now and I am happy and so are my corals. If these checkers come up zero all the time then they are useless IMO. I even experimented with mine and would over feed the tank and then check the next day just to see how much my P04 levels climbed. Like I said with the older one I have only had a zero reading once.

I'm assuming this is the response from Hanna!? Unbelieveable. What a joke. Oh, and the PPB test is Phosphorus, not Phosphate. You can arrive at your phosphate number with some division math on the results you get on Phosphorus. Just sounds like a thinly veiled attempt to get a bunch of suckers (us) to buy more of their products.

Would really like to see Jessica pay us a visit. If she does come over, let's be curteous and pay her some respect. We'll get the best response, feedback, and hopefully a functioning product when it's all said and done, if we treat her well.

Troylee, let us know if you hear from her. She's a much better person to be corresponding with than some phone tech.

Also, for what it's worth, I spoke with Hanna a few weeks ago when I ordered the meter. They said that they had been put through rigorous "quality control" tests prior to being shipped out (same with the Alkalinity meters). I just keep going back to the reference/standard test I ran that was a 1.00 sample (hand signed mind you) that came back 0.80 on the meter. That's triple the difference between a happy reef and a bunch of skeletons in your glass box.

for sure i agree.....
im not bashing the product because i dont know what the problem is....for all we know it can operator error... most likely it is because the directions don't explain everything according to few a posts from people on here.....just need some good q and a to get to the bottom and all we can do is assume untill we get definitive answers from the source.....;)

Cool, my comments were in general, for us all (not directly at you Troylee). Just didn't want a tirade of bashing going on if she shows up. I agree, simple Q & A and to report our findings and confusion.

Just got mine in the mail today. Wish I would have seen this thread. Can someone tell me the proper steps to use it? Do I put ten millimeters of water in both tubes? Put the first one in and push button. After thats done I put the packet in the other one shake up and put that in and push button and wait? Is this Right?
