Hello everyone,

I'm setting up a 75g mixed reef tank. I am deciding on lighting and am trying to decide between the Reefbreeder Photon or the Maxspect Razor. I have read good things on both lights, but haven't seen any direct comparisons. Anyone seen both of them? I am a little concerned that the 160W Razor may have issues on a 48in tank, but there website says it can handle it.

I'm a maxspect owner and love the lights. One 160w should be ok for a 75g but would definitely be safe with two 120w.

I have a Reefbreeders Photon48 on my new 75g build. Look up "jasons new 75g build" to see a photo. Great light for the price.

I'd be real concerned about a 27" light with leds that aren't even close to the end of the fixture being able to cover a 48" tank. I'm a bit iffy on the Photon32 and it's leds are closer to the end of the fixture. I'd be going with the Photon 48. And I don't own either, I have EverGrow IT2080's (which is the original Photon 32) over a 6' tank. If you aren't doing sps at the ends and can set the light a bit higher than 8" off the water, the IT2080 or Photon32 will do the job, IMHO.

I'll be going with the Reef Breeder Photon48 when I get my 75g going.

For the price, you can't go wrong .. and Reef Breeders are very nice. (Have a Nova A4 over a cube at the moment)

The tank is 48x18x21. I can get the light higher above the tank with no issues as I will be hanging it. I definitely like both lights. Leaning more towards the Reefbreeders because of the side, but the wife saw the Razor and likes it for looks....... Seamus, what optics did you go with? What about layout?

My tank is the same size. If you go with the Photon48, I would run your blues around 50% and whites at 20% to start. I torched a couple of monti's when I had the whites at 30%.

I also mounted my light about 8" from the top of the tank.
