Been in the hobby going on 3 years and have recently encountered a nitrate issue. Or at least I think it’s an issue. I have a 210 gallon reef tank that currently houses 1 large rabbit fish 1 large tang and about 8 smaller fish. I am pretty regular on water changes and all coral is open and looks amazing. During my last weeks water testing I’m getting a reading of nitrates that show 60 ppm. I use a Red Sea nitrate test kit. This has been an ongoing issue with this tank as my nitrates are all over the place. Last month they were 30 ppm and a month before that they were 80. Yes I am using the test kit correctly. Last thing my phosphates are .25 very low. Ammonia 0 nitrites 0 calcium 500. Salinity 1.026. Temp 78 degrees. Question are the nitrates eventually going to kill the coral ? And any explanation why the spikes ?
