I haven't looked into this in a while but:

Are volitans mostly being collected from the Atlantic now because of their invasive status or are most of them still pacific in origin?
Probably. I got a Volitan by mistake, it was the fastest growing creature I've ever seen.

Always begging for what’s in our hands

I had a Volitan for like 6-7 months. It's the fastest growing animal I have ever seen. I've had several lionfish (dwarf and medium), and I agree that they are docile and don't compete for food, but the Volitan is an exception. I rehomed him and got an antenatta who is more suited for my aquarium.

Going to revive an old thread - im thinking of getting a Radiata or a Volitans lionfish - few questions for you lionfish experts:
1 - how large does the Radiata get compared to the Volitans
2 - If i was to get a full size volitans - would it be able to eat any of its smaller tank mates? the smallest tank mate will probably be my white tail bristletooth tang (around 14-15cm)

I'd get a Radiata, but they are VERY hard to find and get a good specimen.

I had a Volitan (actually ordered an antenatta, they misshipped me a Volitan). It is still the fastest growing animal I have ever seen. It's also alot more aggressive than any other lionfish I have had. It will get in there at feeding time and eat whatever is there.
