So the life sand I bought I thought was fine grade when I hurried put it in the tank filled the tank with the rocks and water I later found out that it was actually very rocky. Would it be a terrible idea to get all of that old Rocky sand out and put new sand in the tank or is that even possible.

I'd do it over time, find a siphon hose big enough and siphon it out with your water changes, and the new with a long piece of pvc and a funnel so it don't get to cloudy. Only siphon small areas and just get the top layer each time.
