Hey folks. I just moved and went through the unpleasant experience of breaking down my 112 gallon jawfish focused aquarium. Things went generally smooth, with minimal loss so far. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

One fish I haven't seen since putting her in the new tank last weekend is my purple firefish. I know they can hide for very extended amounts of time, so I'm not worried...but I am feeling like some fun stories of long time hiding fish would be heartwarming right now. If anyone has a good one to share, I'd love to read it :)

I will kick us off with my favorite. We have a green clown goby that lives in a big sps colony. Before he had all the sps his little heart could dream of he had a habit of sleeping near the overflow. At some point we noticed we hadn't seen him in a bit, but him being a little guy in a big tank we figured he was just out of sight. About 6 weeks had gone by and we presumed the worst, until I happened to see a flash of movement in my refugium. I found our cute little buddy happily bouncing about in my chaeto. I was able to catch him and return him to the display (where he never went near the overflow again)!

My daughter really really wanted a purple dottyback we saw at the LFS. I was timid to get it due to its size. It was the smallest one I’ve ever seen. It was about the size of a tick tack. But she really wanted it. So of course the 6 year old won because it was purple lol. So we brought it home, acclimated it and of course it went into hiding right away. Well, the next day we couldn’t find it. A week went buy and no sign of it, a month and still couldn’t find it at all. My daughter was upset because she could never find it and I thought maybe an anemone got it. Here we are a year later, all of a sudden we look over at the tank and it’s 3” long and swimming all over the rocks! We were all amazed and my daughter was so thrilled her “purple” fish was in there. Now all of a sudden it’s always out and about and swimming everywhere. Super cool to see finally lol

I had one Discordipinna griessingeri in a 27 L tank with a lot of stones. After a couple of months its disappear - i could not see it. One day - more than 6 months later I was filming some of my trimma gobies and look here was happens. Look after 15 seconds att the bottom stone ner the right corner

At 17:11 - it will show up its whole beaty on the middle of the same stone

27 L is around 8G

Another story - now including a 1.400,000 L shark tank. We ordered 25 Caesio cuning - and got it. The only problem was the size - around 3 - 4 cm (1"-1.5") an no way to feed them up before introduction. They got into this large tank. We did not see them ar all the coming weeks but after a couple of months I look upp into the surface of the tank. There was always a wave pattern caused by our pumps at the surface - and there was all 25 - hiding among the peaks of the small waves. 1 year later - they was around 10 - 15 cm and I count to 24!

Sincerely Lasse
