My 300 gallon is doing very well after a full restart after a nasty battle with ich. My current fish are back in the tank. Slowly raising salinity as well. Going to wait at least another month before any new editions but looking to start a list.

Have:
Zebra, white eye, jeweled, and snowflake eels
Desjardini sailfin tang
Porcupine puffer
Rainbow wrasse
Maroon clowns x2
Marine betta

In QT/Holding:
Hi fin snapper (baby at the moment)
Emperor angel (also a baby)
Powder blue tang

Ordered with dr reef (trying him again)
Atlantic blue tang
Vlamingi tang
Lavender tang

Looking for suggestions! Tank is 8 foot long.

Dream fish is a sohal tang if I can find one locally thats healthy!

Bluethroat Trigger would fit in nicely
I love triggers! Im torn between a male/female pair of blue throats or one niger trigger. I love their little red teeth!

Honestly I would say you're maxed on large fish. Between the Hi-Fin, Emp, Vlamingi, Desjardini, porcupine puffer and atlantic blue that's a lot of really large fish, even for an 8 foot tank. (I had an 8 foot tank with peacock bass a few years ago, even with only a pair at a foot each that tank felt way too small for them) Maybe a trio of dwarf angels to fill in the niche for smaller fish, or some of the medium-sized wrasses but wouldn't recommend anything smaller since the eels would take them out eventually.

Would NOT recommend a sohal tang, honestly a fish that needs a dedicated tank all to itself when they get large. I have personally never heard of a sohal living in a community tank for more than a year without going berserk. Beautiful fish, but not one that should be in the hobby IMO.

Fair about the sohal. I love them since they are beautiful but Ill probably pass since I do have other large fish on the list. I do actually really like my rainbow wrasse and maybe one other wrasse would be a good edition. Always liked red coris wrasses. I was considering a trigger like I said above. I like the idea of a trio of dwarf angels for color and movement. Not going to add that many more fish because like you said I have bigger fish. Just wanted a few other smaller fish to round out the list :) thank you for the suggestions! New to having a large tank like this and dont want to have too many big boys in there!

A bluethroat pair, trio of dwarf angels, and a medium wrasse or two sounds like a great way to round out your stocking! Should shape up to be an amazing tank as the bigger fish grow in.

Sweet! Do you think adding a naso would be pushing it for big fish? Lost my beautiful girl to ich and miss her :(

I would caution against it. With some of the above fish listed pushing 2' (Hi-fin and Vlamingi) and the emp, porc, and atlantic blue reaching a possible 1.5', not to mention the eels and other larger fish, I would say you're definitely toeing the line there from a bioload and territory perspective.

Although an 8 foot tank feels huge (Which it is relative to other tanks) they fill up shockingly fast as fish grow, especially big swimmers like naso genus tangs. When I had my 8' I severely overestimated how much I could stock it with. Personally, I would let your current fish grow out for a while and re-assess then. I personally wouldn't do it due to space concerns, but if that's something you feel more comfortable with once you see how the fish grow in, I wouldn't say it's impossible.

I would check out melev's reef on youtube if you haven't already. He has a 400g with a naso, and although his tank has a little less length than yours (Assuming 8X3X2 300) I would say the large fish you have already will be taking up most, if not all of the available space in your tank as they fill out.

Okay makes sense! And yeah the size is deceiving! Makes you think you can have way more fish than you actually can. Ill hold off on the naso :) mines actually 8 long, 2.5 wide and 3 tall I believe

It really is! Once you start adding big, possibly aggressive fish 8' runs out really quickly :confused-face: my 8' tank eventually just belonged to the 2 peacocks, I was looking forward to having all kinds of fish but they claimed the whole thing at even half their adult size. And yeah I couldn't remember the 300 dimensions off the top of my head!

I mean maybe take some of the money your spending on fish and put it into a new light LOL
Lol its not the light its the power supply I think. I have one coming but my state is being pummled with snowstorms so it will be super late

Actually fixed the light! Was a connection issue with the storm! Much better full tank pictures. And some of the eels enjoying their new rock scape!
