Losing fish and hating it.

removing the LR will mess with the bacterial balance of the tank. if you dont have any inverts why not go Hyposalinity? if it is Crypt (marine ich) you are after, that will nuke it for sure.

to be clear here, this is the the setup: 55 gallon with a large sponge filter and 2 large HOB filters with LR rubble and bio wheels. I have 2 large pieces of rock in my 55 that came from the DT, that's what I'm referring to as far as removal of rock. just 2 pieces.

The reason hypo wouldnt work for me is that it is such a fine line of being too high or too low for it too work, and being that I go out of town for work a lot, I'm afraid that it would to hard to maintain if I was gone.

I got a call from someone in the club today, that gave me some different perspectives at this whole thing. And my gut feeling is to just keep the copper or hypo out of the QT for now. I plan on keeping the QT up for my new additions as of now, so that if something nasty does break out I can treat accordingly and quickly. I am going to narrow down what equipment is putting off my voltage and try to phase them out. I was unaware that the grounding probe zeros the voltage out, but technically doesnt remove it from the tank, it just diverts it.

Update: All fish that have made it through this are alive and well, and I am at the point where I am going to start restocking slowly to my DT. I'm thinking about going with a wrasse dominated tank. Any suggestions?

If I want to go with multiples a mystery will be last. AC had a small one this week for $35!!!

What say what why didn't you tell me!!!!!!

If it was there yesterday I think I saw it. I wasn't really looking for a wrass so I didn't pay much attention to it. It wasn't one that would catch your eye really.

I agree. I saw it but walked on. didnt look very colorful and I already have the state's fattest 6 line. they had a nice looking Japanese swallowtail angel too but it was a bit shy.

Well, I wanted to update here. I went a full 8 weeks and 3 days of running my DT fallow. I ended up ordering 4 lyretail anthias from AC. 1 male 3 female. So I went ahead and transferred my other fish from the QT back into the DT, just in case my anthias had something funky. My melenurus wrasse was so happy to be back in his home. there was a gajillion pods in there, now there is 2....but hey, he's fat and happy. my chromis is diiging the birdsnest to hide out in, and the diamond goby clouded the tank up again for 4 days. but my sand is spotless now.

All anthias are in the QT, and doing very well. Although I am probably going to get rid of one. It is a female, but its morphing to a male. and my super male knows it, and is harrassing he/she. I plan on putting them into the display by next week.

So good to have fish in the DT again, and I tell you, it's nice to have a QT...a little extra security while adding all these new fish.

again lmk bro i want that anthias :) glad ur getting fish bank in ur tank too.

Mike, your female is huge, and if you put this sub male in with yours, your large female will probably turn male too....not a good combo.

Well if Mike really wants it, he had dibs about 2 weeks before I even posted this. But I'm still not sure if I want to get rid of it him/her yet. I'm going to let them complete at least 21 days in QT first, and then go from there.
