Hello

I lost my 4 year old clown.
I have 1 clown left that I would like to save if it's not too late.

I got a small sailfin tang about 2 weeks ago. He died a few days ago. Had what resembled ick but it looked a little different.

Right after the tang died, my 3 year old royal gramma died.
Then I noticed my clowns looking bad.
I had also changed filters because old one quit working. I added MB7 when switching over to new filter.
I had a bacterial bloom that I thought might have depleted oxygen from the tank so I added air stones.
Clowns seem to have perked up with the air stones but they did not really get better.

I lost 1st clown last night.

The other clown is still with me but not looking good at all.

Can anyone tell me what they contracted from the Tang?
If I can figure out what they got, hopefully I can treat my last fish and save him.

Bummer. That fish needs help, fast. More likely velvet than ich....but maybe brook?

If velvet, a dip followed by copper meds in a hospital tank will be its only chance.

With the speed that the fish are dieing, and the similar appearance to ich, I would guess Velvet. Unfortunately there is little chance that you will be able to save the other clown if it is velvet. Hopefully some one with more success and knowledge will chime in.

This definitely looks like a velvet outbreak. Any remaining fish need to be caught and put into a hospital tank with copper or Chloroquine Phosphate. The main tank will need to run fallow for at least 6 weeks, to avoid reinfection.

You don't *necessarily* have to test. Copper Power is a great product. 1 mL per gallon of tank volume gives you 1.75ppm Cu.

If I can't find locally, I can order online and have it by tomorrow.
Anything I can do to help him survive till I can treat him?

If there’s any possible way to get some treatment today I would do that. You never know how long fish have until it’s too late.

I'm going to start treatment today.
I have the Fritz Coppersafe and I found my Copper Power Blue.

I purchased a 5 gal tank and a cheap filter along with some Bio Spira.

I really NEED to know if Fritz Coppersafe is good to use. My Copper Power is OLD and I don't know how much to dose in a 5 gallon tank.

@ReefSquad
I have both Fritz Coppersafe and Copper Power Blue.

I need to know which one to use.
Also...
I have the clown in exactly 4 gallons of water.
I need to know EXACTLY how much copper power to use.
I know how much coppersafe to use.

I want to start treatment now if possible.

Please advise.

I have never used coppersafe but I found this on Fritz’ website. https://fritzaquatics.com/products/mardel-coppersafe
it says that if you have exactly 4 gallons of water to use exactly 1 tsp (5 mL) of coppersafe. The website has much more information to help you with this, i hope this help!

No worries.

I treated with fritz coppersafe just because dosing is easy.

Poor little fish. He's looking real bad.

He was in bad shape in the display but he was good enough to try to run from the net.

He was worse going into the QT.
He's even worse after adding the coppersafe.

We will see how he does.

Are there any other meds I should be administering?
Anything else I need to be concerned about?

Sorry but that's advanced stage Brooklynella. Look at the pictures of advanced stage Brook in the link below.

Treatment OptionsFormalin is the most effective treatment for Brook, but using Ruby Reef Rally is another good option. Both are best applied via bath treatment, and more information on this can be found in the links below.

Formalin (45 min bath) https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/formalin.290925/

Rally (90 min bath) https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/acriflavine.282887/

Post bath, transfer the fish into a clean/sterile QT to prevent reinfection. It is a wise course of action to dose Chloroquine Phosphate once (60 mg/gal) or metronidazole every 48 hours for 10-14 days thereafter. This is an “insurance policy” to ensure all of the parasites have been eliminated.

A 5 minute freshwater dip may provide temporary relief if you are unable to locate any of the aforementioned medications right away. Some even claim total eradication of the disease is possible just by performing multiple freshwater dips on the fish. Again, transfer the fish into a new/sterile QT following each freshwater dip to prevent reinfection.

Can Tangs get Brook? I thought that was a clownfish disease.
The Sailfin tang brought this disease to the tank.

So the coppersafe will do nothing for him?

I have Ruby Reef Rally. Can I add Rally to the water the coppersafe is in?
Do I need to do a 100% water change and start again with Rally?
Or is it a lost cause at this point?
