I like a ton of LPS corals!

Euphyllia is probably top pick.
Acans/trachys are second
And I’m starting to go on a blasto kick
Really like Scolys but too expensive for me

Pros of LPS:
Don’t mine dirty water
Good movement
Decent growth
Usually cheaper

Cons of LPS:
Some can’t take a ton of light
Can’t think of anymore

Start of a Euphyllia garden

Yesterday we talked about soft corals and today it's all about LPS corals!

Today it's all about those large fleshy polyp hard corals that will reach out and touch someone with those long sweeper tentacles! I know they very in size and structure but I like to refer to some of my favorite corals as "fatty lps." :p It's hard to find someone who doesn't like at least one type of LPS coral! So let's talk about them today!

1. What's your favorite LPS coral? Get specific and share a photo if you have it!

2. What are your pros and cons to LPS corals?

I think my favorite LPS corals are scolymia. I also have a frag of a platygyra that promises to be spectacular when it grows up.

The pros are the enormous variety and spectacular colors. The cons are the stinging sweepers.

I love LPS corals! I currently have a duncan, massive elegance, and a candy cane. Once I get the nitrates and phosphates back up (killing the dinos) I'm planning on getting a couple more like maybe a hammer and frogspawn. Honestly if i could I would have a tank covered in Aussie elegance. They are so hardy and beautiful.

I love LPS, they make up more than half the corals in my mixed reef. Part of the draw is the variety of shapes and colors. It's hard to pick a favorite, euphylia, platygyra, trachy, blastomussa, favia, favites all catch my attention. I love that I can interact with them by feeding them.. The biggest con is that some are slow growing and saving space for sweeper tenatcles, but as with everything else in a reef, every decision comes with trade offs.

Tanks only 6 months old and LPS dominate 9 LPS-to-3 SPS. That is pretty good betting chances that if you point at one of my corals there is a 75% of the time it will be a LPS. Acan and Favia dominant

Like LPS a lot. I really like feeding them and the nearly instant response to food. More feeding = faster growth - especially with acans. Lately though I've been digging on Platygyras. There are some pretty amazing colors out there right now and they are fairly inexpensive, which means I can get more of them! Have four now, just ordered a nice sized frag of a pretty unusual color form from ASD, and I'll see what else they put up over the weekend.

I am not happy this question was asked... I always thought of myself as an sps guy but before I answered I counted. I have more lps than sps. I guess I am a closet lps guy.

14 LPS
11 SPS

But you have sps and from the count they are likely doing OK.. so you are an SPS guy ... like it or not.

Voted other because just adding acans, duncans and just love the euphyllias, just not the price! Liking the other post suggestions.
