LPs corals get huge when ALL flow is off?

Was wondering why this happens when I turn the flow off they get super big and healthy looking ? Does this happen to anyone else ? It’s all pretty much lps corals

Never heard of this. To my knowledge LPS should have a little flow.

What ive read alot is opposite of what you say and is when flow is to strong then the torch retracts so doesnt lose tentacles getting ripped off so therefore less flow or no flow it does opposite maybe

Edit: like you walking in a hurricane and you walking on a nice sunny none windy day.
One you gotta fight and other you can relax.not saying this is correct answer but seems most logical in my head anyhows ^_^

It’s because a lot of lps that are capable of really puffing up don’t do so in strong or even medium flow because it can rip their flesh.

If you have sps and LPs, it's all about messing with territory and flow. Most Lps do best with low-medium
flow. It's just like this.

Sps, love those rapid waters. Some lps do as well. Like some gonioporas.

I have a power head but I never use it it’s aimed for the back wall and all my coral hate when it’s on I just use my overflow or whatever you call the pump on the top of the tank...but when I turn that sucker off they get even bigger weird

75 Gallon tank it’s been up for about 5 years now and I’ve noticed this a lot

They do that because they can safely puff up more when the flow is off. Also, if you feed them with the pumps off, they might be expecting to be fed whenever the flow stops.

I do feed them half the time when the flow is off so that is interesting but majority of the times I can feed them with just the return pump on but that’s definitely a high possibility never thought of that

Flow can condense polyps by pressing them together and also have a 'straightening' effect. When the water is still the tissue relaxes. Great time to take pics.
