Would definitely like to exchange ideas/experiences with you. I have went pretty far down the rabbit hole (red pill) with node-red and tank automation. Although I am freshwater, except for some water parms, most of the other major issues are the same. I laud your ability to make things look neat and well thought out. That is one skill i have always envied in others. Willing to share everything i have have so far.

Temps, PH, Waterlevel, EC/TDS(Salinity), fert cycle, mix cycle, ATO, Auto water change, settings, graphing, internet-facing access, wifi-based telemetry, plenty more

Glad to see you moving along MaddyP...

I have my mini-rack of aquariums running. Temp and pH control with the RaspberryPi/NodeRED/Atlas-Sci/NCD.io stuff I built. Lighting, UV and other equipment scheduled. Auto-topoff with RO water working. Need to finish up auto water changes and setup the EZO dosers in my NodeRED code.

I did want to thank you for the work you did with setting up the calibration menus in node red for the atlas-sci EZO circuits/probes. So nice not to have to do that hooked up to a Termite terminal emulator and sending the commands via UART.

Anyway, this is your thread.. so I'll stop (I have a build log over at WWWplantedtankDOTnet as my setup is fresh water planted .. heck I'll post the link I don't think anyone here in reef2reef will care: https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/...27-sonoran-desert-fish-nook-build-thread.html).

Really looking forward to seeing you complete this project! I didn't know a move had taken place??

Thank you! Always open to a collaboration! Maybe a Node-Red specific thread should be created for such things? I would very much like to see what you’ve created for your setup. I’m planning to continue with Node-Red to get the tank up and running while I develop the full-stack website.

Happy to help! I’ll check out your thread over there. More coming soon once the new stand gets delivered. I’ve a few interesting ideas I’m curious to see if work out properly.

New stand has arrived! Thoughts on the new height? Tank sits at ~40" with ~30" for sump and ~8" for reservoirs.

I like these blind joints, though it requires a clearance hole to tighten.

Finally found time to get the electrical panel up!

Left some room at the bottom of the panel for a Meanwell power supply which will power a DIY LED fixture once I figure out which voltage is needed.

Ordered a MakersLED Slim heat sink so I could fit the drivers, pucks, and ultrasonic sensor in the fixture. Should have it later this week.

Made more progress on the electrical board, though had to change the layout a bit to maximize space for future-proofing.

Phoenix Contact terminal blocks for the win...

FD793D89-BA7F-45B9-9B7D-B32A6709BB06.jpeg

And a nice 48V to 24V 5A converter to power everything through distribution blocks. Notice the extra room for additional boards? :)

48V 10A supply is mounted underneath and will power lighting.

Also made some progress with the lighting, but had to change to another driver board as the previous couldn’t power these pucks due to a silly circuit protection feature. So, I went with MakersLED 5Up boards which offer serial communication for controlling the channels. I’ll integrate it directly with my controller via Raspi USB port.

And last but not least, some much needed wire management...

Now I realize why this build has taken so long. Absolutely outstanding work.

I had no idea the slim sinks cam in a raw color,or is it because of the length ?

Thank you! It’s certainly taking longer than any previous build but it’s been fun so far thinking through the complexity.

Actually, I wasn’t sure what I would receive but I think they stopped selling the anodized black.

Looking good now that it’s all buttoned up!

Also, the last MakersLED 5Up board finally shipped so next week I will finish up the light and hang it!

Second driver came in from MakersLED! First board handles channels 2, 4, and 5 for all 6 pucks. Channel 1 and 3 can only run 3 pucks. Second driver is powering channels 1 and 3 of the remaining 3 pucks. And a ultrasonic sensor for measuring liquid level in display.

I was hoping to get away with no fans on the led fixture, but it was simply getting too hot! Still think it looks slick though..

And the ultrasonic sensor fits nicely in the fixture for measuring display level! I’ll us this sensor as a failsafe incase the water level rises too high in the display. Also, in conjunction with the sensor measuring level in the sump I should be able to average water volume to account for evaporation.

can't wait to see you fill this thing with coral and fish.
Neither can I! Most of my time has been spent creating custom UI nodes for the community, but once I finish those up creating a functional dashboard will be super easy for anyone who wants to. :)
