Not sure yet! But varying the water level will definitely be fun to try. :)

Ladies and gents, though this has been a very long process without many updates of late, we have ignition!

Finally finished up enough of the code to feel confident in basic operation of keeping water in the display. Still some work to do on the visuals but it's coming together!

Here are a few more images of the setup, I'll try to extrapolate more soon. Some of the extra rock in the display will be removed once seeded, these are purely to facilitate biodiversity (live rock from Salty Bottom Reefs).

Controller remains relatively unchanged, though I will be adding SSD for stability and a CO2 sensor for fun.

I’ve been following this since the beginning. I’m happy to see that you’ve made your idea work, that must be very satisfying. Great job.

Thank you! After more than two years of development I am super excited to see it hold water. It has me thinking about version two, which would be a dual return custom sump. The current sump is 2-3 gallons shy of holding the entire display tank volume so if there is ever a catastrophic failure in the drain valve it'll mean that much water on the floor. But it's better than 12 gallons. Ideally, I would have a new sump built with extra volume to hold entire display volume...maybe something I should look into...

That would probably make you feel better about any potential failures. What is that, a 20L for the sump? Could you get a 29 under there? Doesn’t look like enough room under the cabinet for the extra height.

It’s a 20 long so to have enough room for each section. The 29 doesn’t give enough room for a skimmer section, or at least one large enough to use my existing skimmer (Vertex Omega 150). And yes, it’s extremely oversized for this setup but it’s an amazing skimmer.

Working on a custom sump design to eliminate the 3-way ball valve and allow better control of flow on either side of the tank. This also adds about 4.5 gallons to the total sump volume in case the display ever drains completely. Utilizing Varios-4 pumps will allow power to be integrated directly into my system (24VDC) eliminating the AC power bricks.

Also considering replacing the filter socks with a Clarisea filter or similar. I had in my previous 75G build a Elite Aquatics Rollermat sump which was amazing, so much easier than dealing with filter socks.

Thoughts?

Tank is coming along nicely! Thought I’d share a few progress pics since I cleaned the glass…

Turns out one of the local coral shops is celebrating their 10th anniversary this coming weekend so hopefully you will see some initial stocking…fingers crossed!

Power went out today putting my setup to the test. Failsafe initiated as planned with only an inch of display level loss! Once power came back everything restarted and went back to normal.

I must say, I am so impressed with your skills in things I don’t understand. This system seems overly complicated but it’s a hobby and that is the fun of it!

Thank you! Yes, it’s way over complicated but fun all the same. Stay tuned, initial stocking is happening tomorrow!

Local store was having an anniversary sale this weekend (BOGO coral deals) so I stocked up! Please excuse the dirty glass…

zoa’s but couldn’t resist a few sticks. Cleanup crew is already hard at work clearing the bare bottom! More pics tomorrow when I may revisit the anniversary sale…

Found my orange filter so here are some progress pics. Most everything is doing well with the exception of the first milli. It is showing minor polyp extension so hopefully it pulls through...

Normally I would never add rock from another system into my tank, however the nem was wedged in so good I had no other choice. As if to console my decision, these really pretty neon blue zoas opened up shortly after.
