Has anyone used this “magic rock “ that is supposed to fight algae and clarify water in a reef tank ? It says it’s safe. Google says it’s safe … but, I only trust actual reefers and our experiences. I got a new tank about 2 months old . Wondering if it would affect my near perfect parameters. I am fighting through the algae stage. Doing all the work and staying ahead of it , but saw this and was curious if any experiences with it.
Thanks so much

I didn’t research it, but have a feeling that’s it’s just a fancy Biobrick, which has mixed reviews. They seem to do what they promise, increase surface area, but good live rock is hard to ignore for the same effect.

Thanks. I started this tank with dry rock. Been out of the hobby for aver a year. Just got back in. The rock is 2 months old. It’s starting to colonize. I live in a rural town in Michigan lol not much live rock up here lol I have a nice clean up crew and I am water changing and manually removing algae. It’s not that bad at all. Just curious if it would change the fact that my 4 Coral I have are very happy. My mushroom already split into 2 , my 5 head Duncan is now 9 lol my done size hammer is now quarter size. They only been in there like 5 weeks. I don’t wanna disturb the chemistry , just help to get out of the algae stage. My water is clear. Maybe I should just keep doing what I’m doing and not try to fix what ain’t broken. Just wait it out ?

It would help if you linked the product, but it’s probably at least half a scam.
It seems too good to be true and scary right? Lol but if it worked like they say lol it would be great lol but, my instincts are saying. Do what you know and just put in the work lol just curious if anyone has tried it. Thanks :) for answering.

99% sure it's snake oil at best.

Always be wary of products that say:

  1. "beneficial bacteria" without stating what they are, especially if they are "dry" in the rocks
  2. Works both in Marine and Freshwater environments.
There is no way to speed up the ugly stage of your reef, especially if you started with all dry rock. You might even be tackling issues for years if you started with only dry rock. Nothing in this hobby happens fast (except leaks), and patience will get you far. There are rarely any shortcuts, and this is definitely not it.

If I were you, I would put in a order of some nice Live Rock (shipped with water) to seed your tank. You will thank me for it years down the line.

Thanks great advice. I was just curious, knowing I’m not gna try it lol , yeah I used to have a 75 gallon reef. I took a break after a crash on a stocked established tank :( So now I’m starting a 20 gallon to seed my larger tank again , down the line. Currently, things are good. I had live sand and used live Bacteria to cycle it. The 4 coral and other things I have are thriving and healthy. Water is clear . Because it is a small tank , I can do small water changes often , and manually remove algae. It’s not bad.
