My mandarin goby that I have had for 2.5 months has started displaying white discoloration of its fins since around two weeks ago. The patches have been disappearing and reappearing and at first I thought it could be some weird mucus buildup, since he has similar milky coloration at night on his body. Today I looked more closely and noticed his pectoral fin was tattered and also turning white. He is still swimming normally and behaving normally.
For medication, all I have is some kanaplex and an empty 2.5 gallon tank I could use to medicate him in, or a spare five gallon bucket?

Is kanaplex safe for dragonets? IMG_6709.jpeg IMG_6708.jpeg IMG_6707.jpeg

I fear that I haven't been adequately feeding him, which led to an opportunistic bacterial infection from the stress of not getting enough nourishment? Attempting to correct this atm with a dedicated mandarin feeding station, two brine shrimp hatcheries, and raising tisbe copepods in a separate five gallon bucket to add to my tank every couple of weeks.

I cant tell if dots I see are on the glass or fish itself. Fish is quite thin and needs a constant supply of pods and even brine shrimp as a supplement. This fish has a secretion as a means of protection which is what you may see on the fins but nourishment will be essential.

No dots on the fish, glass was dirty. White splotches on its fins are what im talking about. Any thoughts on kanaplex?

Cant see your updated pictures - but - either way - the only thing that will lead to tattered fins in a mandarin is damage from something in the tank (whether invert or fish). They shouldn't develop spontaneous lesions, except maybe old age - I would concentrate on any new additions and post new pictures when able. Additionally these fish have very short life expectancies.

Why do videos never work on this site?
I can see video and fish appears to be feeding. You can use Kanaplex although i dont believe it will change anything.

Its strange. Comparing the video I took just now with the one I took two hours ago shows that the white areas have colored back up significantly, although there are still pale spots where the fins join the body

I have a skunk cleaner shrimp, starry blenny, banggai cardinal, a few redleg hermit crabs.

I would try some TDO Chromaboost x-small or small pellets (crushed) to get some high protein foods in him or some frozen brine (targeted). The good thing is that he is eating vigorously. Mine is lazy and lays around sometimes waiting for his pellets or frozen. I need to get more PODS going.

I can see video and fish appears to be feeding. Likely wont eat anything dry but continue with heavy pod culture

He will eat frozen mysis but its difficult to target feed, especially with my cleaner shrimp. Its irritatingly greedy.

I had a white patch fin issue twice with my mandarin but solved it with kanaPlex dosed in the tank and metroplex/focus in his food.

I had a separate tank for him, a little 10 gallon tank. Mine has always eaten the frozen brine shrimp for the last 3 1/2 years.

I have the same problem with my fish and cleaner shrimp. I usually distract the shrimp with a bit of food in another area of the tank
