What's up everyone!

I went to Florida and I found some propagules! I always wanted to try so.. let's do it!

They were on water for several days until I figured out how to plant among several ideas.

I have red mangroves as this picture explains:

I understood from a yt video of @WWC that rhizoporas they do fine in either Salt or fresh water.

- For Salt water, you must ensure good lighting, because this trigger the filtration of elements. This specie does "eat" the salt so to make this separation good light is really important.
- For fresh water, you don't challenge the plant so much by jumping the salt filtration process, so theoretically this is a higher change of success.

Based in this article of the great Jake Adams - who was a bright soul which left an amazing legacy in this hobby - I believe that fresh water system should be pretty straight forward.

I bought a bag of similar substrate as informed. I'm using fluval statum.

Clay pot of my wife
Water 50% fresh out of the tap lol
50% saltwater

Reason? these propagules came from the sea.
I think they were used to salt, so I assume It will reduce the shock and since it's summer, light if good at the porch, I believe they might thrive.

Today I was checking it and we had a lot of evaporation, like 5oz. I'm glad I have a tiny one which is my water level. :face-with-tears-of-joy:

I will keep posting once I have more relevant updates. Thanks for reading until here!

If yoy want to check my other threat about a crazy bowl with no external filtration check this out!

Quick update after 3 months on the mangrove experiment.
Two out of the four are growing slowly - as I think is expected. One was dead and removed the other smaller is a question mark.
I just can't forget to water them lol

Mere coincidence but this update comes exactly 1 month after my last post.

End of summer and begin of Fall unveiled large growth of leafs.

I'll be 25 days out of home and I hope it doesn't run out of water. I did a two full week test to check evaporation and seems that I won't have any problems.

I think that I might need to move it to a bigger vase in future or this will turn into a bonsai, what.. does not look to be a so bad idea.

Another update after around 6 months.
I went out of the country for 3,5 weeks counting with less evaporation during the fall. The pot was very dry but it looks like the mangrove is still alive.
I brought indoors now for the winter.

Looks like each tree has a couple different stems coming up, that will be nice so you'll have more of a full canopy that you can trim and not end up with very tall trees.

Yeah, I hope to learn how to manage it's size in future. In such small pot, I think this will become a bonsai mangrove lol

Almost a month after my last update:

The mangroves are really taking off. The grow rate indoors with grow lights is impressive.

Slowly getting there!
Perhaps in some months it will be time for moving to a larger pot.

My routine is to top off the water and add few drops of iron or a liquid that came together with my aerogarden. It has nitrates, phosphate and others. Basically has everything you don't want in your tank haha

Time for the -almost- 1yr update.
It's doing really well.
I dont have really a routine. Just top off the water and adding like 5 drops of chaeto grow and iron or a random food plant.
