Maxima clam mantle bleached

Hi i have the clam for about half a year. it has being doing fine and when its fully extended, its mantle looks healthy.

But its mantle is overlapping itself and when it retracts i can see the overlapped parts have bleached.

is it normal or clams to overlap itself and become partially bleached?

I think you are looking at the fresh shell that is being deposited by the happy clam? Normal, from what I see.

i think the blue light makes it hard to see but i just tuned the white balance and circled the part i think is bleached. can u pls have another look?

You have a healthy clam, don't fret over that part of the mantle, it's what they do. Look for good coloration overall and fresh shell growth at the top of the shell margins and you're good to go. I would also suggest that you buy James Fatherree's new book on clams (every clam owner should have this book and other books as well).

This is my maxima clam. This is what you’re looking for: new growth. A growing clam is a healthy clam.

Over extension of the mantle is not always heathy. But your clam is doing well and is growing. If you can provide more light, then it will not extend it's mantle as much, and will not have the partial bleached area. Any mantle under the shade will get bleach a little. There is nothing you can do about it other than provide it with more light.
In the picture below, I have no less than 5 LED flood light (daylight) and two Kessil light on them full blast. They are doing great and growing quickly.

Enough light? How do you know how much light is enough? My sandbed gets about 200 par. I use 2x 8 bulb T5 fixtures.

For Crocra and Maxima, the more the better. I keep mine under 500+ None of these blue light either. These clams evolved under full spectrum bright tropical sun, not in the deep blue only light.

This! Also, clams look like crap under blue lighting. It's only under full spectrum daylight that you get to witness their true colors. These clams receive 1000+ micro moles in the wild and some are exposed to air for hours, so you can never have enough light for them. 5500k or 6500k lighting and these clams simply glow.

BTW, It is my opinion that your have a T. noae, not a T. maxima.
