Anyone know if it is possible to put a dry side in the water or will you have rust issues? I have peninsula style aquarium with a c2c overflow. I was to put the gyre about 2 inches from the top which would put the dry side magnet in the overflow

I wouldn't - corrosion/rust can cause leaching into your water. you could use a couple drops of super glue to secure the gyre, it would be quite secure but easy to remove if you really wanted to.

They are covered in rubber. I wouldn’t see why not. A quick Google search has post going back as far as 2014 saying folks have run them in the overflow for years withno issues.
