About 2 weeks ago I merged my 3 tanks into 1, namely a Red Sea Reefer 250.

Equipment:
  • 1x 200W heater. (thinking about adding a secondary heater.)
  • 1x Jecod DXP 5000 (as a return, lowest setting)
  • 1x TMC Reef-Skim 1.000
  • 1x (temporary) Propeller Pump from Jecod
  • 1x EasyLed 438mm 1.0 with a 1.0 single channel controller
  • 2x EasyLed 438 2.0 with a 2.0 dual channel controller
Stocking:
  • 2x Ocellaris Amphiprioninae 'Darwin'
  • 1x Skunk Tilefish
  • 1x Flasher Wrasse
  • 1x Blue & Yellow Damsel
  • 1x Red Firefish
  • 1x Purple Firefish
  • 1x Anthias
  • 1x Coral Beauty Angelfish
  • 1x Chalk Bass
  • 1x Lysmata debelius
  • 2x Stenopus hispidus
  • 2x Lysmata wurdemanni
  • ~6-8 snails (will be upping this to 10-12)
  • ~6-8 hermite crabs (will be upping this to 10 aswell)
I'm thinking about filling my cleanup crew with 2 extra shrimp namely 2 Lysmata amboinesis.

What do I feed by fish?
I like to feed a mix of shrimp eggs, fish eggs, mysis and flakes.
For the shrimp & fish eggs, I feed both over a period of 3 days, before switching to another, and the flakes I feed every now & again. Every day I feed 1 small block of mysis for my Skunk Tilefish.

What do I feed my coral?
So apart from dosing different kinds of trace elements, such as:
  • Coral Vits
  • DSR Iodine Reef Supplement
  • DSR Manganese Reef Supplement
  • Red Sea Calcium A
  • Red Sea KH B
  • Red Sea Coral Nutrion A
  • Red Sea Coral Nutrion B
I also like to feed Vitalis Anemone Pellets to the corals listed below:
  • 4 Bubbletip Anemone's
  • 3 Euphyllia Ancora
  • 2 Euphyllia Glabrescens
  • 1 Elegance Coral
  • 1 Duncan Coral
Why feed non-anemone species with anemone pellets?
I experience enhanced growth & enhanced coloration when I feed them, I've tried feeding thawed out marine fish, but I didn't get anywhere near the colours I'm getting right now.

I'd like to document my progress & update this thread as my tank continues to grow & evolve.

Some pictures of 2 of my old tanks:

Here are two pictures of my new tank.
I'm hoping my Euphyllia Glabrescens will fill in the top right corner over time, and that the two corals in the middle, above my anemone's will recover from not doing well in my previous tanks.

So after waking up this morning I noticed that my fungia wasn't doing so hot, and that it's got some of it's tissue (about 1.4th) off the skeleton. I believe this to have been a hermite crab, as the fungia has been stable for the last 5-6 months.

I really like the bi-coloured Euphyllia Paradivisia I bought last week

Can we get a shot of the cabinet with all the equipment?

Yeah sure,

although it's nothing special & I still have to cleanup some cables, after I get my new pump sometime next week.

There's the skimmer, my 200w heater, a return pump, 3 bags of carbon (2 in the 1st filter bag in the back & 1 in the front, together with some HS Aqua filter wool, so that it's nice & easy to clean.)

I don't use an Auto-Top off, or an Automatic dosing machine, as I prefer to do both myself.
The acryllic that's on top of it is to prevent loss of heat & water (got my water loss from 2.5liters a day down to just 1 liter, it's on the tank aswell)

Hi! I am about to upgrade my tank in a couple of weeks....how long did you have to wait to add your fish and coral from your previous tank to your new tank?

Hey,

I bought 2 large 65liter (~20gallon) containers, put all my rocks & fish in them, I then moved all the sand from my 3 tanks into the 250, and then started adding in water.

After I had about 125-150 liters in it I waited for an hour for the water to get up to the right temperature & then started moving the rest of the water, corals & fish.. so almost immediatly.
I hadt about 60% of the water volume though, so I didn't need to cycle the tank.

Thus far I've lost 1 coral (this morning sadly) an orange fungia, but apart from that I've had no losses.

If possible though, I'd advice to wait a little bit longer than I did & run some kind of filter floss / wool to filter out the small sand particles It was difficult for me to place everything in the tank, although decent lamps helped a ton.

Thanks for the great info! Yea luckily I am putting my new tank a Red Sea Reefer 750 across the room from my current tank, a Innovative Marine SR80. So I am going to wait a few days and then make the transfer. I was just curious if a small cycle happened. I am using 80lbs of live rock from my current tank, and I bought another 70lbs of live rock from my LFS....

Did you use any of your old sand? I bought all new sand, but may use a few cups of my old sand......

Thats great! Be sure to make a build thread aswell! :D

I used all of my sand again, I did buy an extra 10kg bag but ended up not using it.

Maybe I've had a small cycle, but the corals opened up the same day and the fish were out & about within the hour (could sometimes see one swim by, through the sand particles)

I am for sure going to do a build thread when the tank gets here. Thanks for making me feel better, it always makes me anxious to move fish and coral. Here is my current tank as of a few min ago. [emoji16]

Just curious but what did you pay for your reefer in Euros? Here the Reefer 250 sells for about 1555 in Euros converted over from US Dollar.
