I recently added a Midas Blenny to my 35g aquarium, with a pair of clown fish. The last Blenny that I had was super peaceful and shy, but this one has been periodically nipping at the clownfish fins and one clownfish has some damage to his back fins now.

Anything I can do to help with the issue? Do you think the blenny would go as far as killing the clownfish? Will the aggression subside as dominance is made? Is it worth removing him? They were expensive designer clownfish.

I had to get rid of my midas, he was an awful jerk. He never quit and was definitely very rough on my clowns.

At what point should I get rid of him? I obviously want to keep everyone is there any chance the aggression will subside?

What size tank?

Mine didn't subside but the midas picked a spot by the clowns nem and no one was willing to find another spot. Midas are super hungry/greedy, you can try feeding often, they are also territorial about their spot. So may depend if your clowns learn to move the heck away.

It’s a Waterbox 35, front glass is 2 feet across. The clowns like the front left corner and host the sand (it’s a new tank). Blenny sits in a rock on the front right, facing the clowns. I think today I’m gonna try to flip the rock and turn his hole facing away from the clowns and see if that helps. I also feed every other day, I can try to feed every day as well. Thank you!!

yeah, mine’s definitely the boss of the tank, also my favorite. Mine will chase my clowns sometimes but that’s it.

try feeding more, that might help.

midas blennys are planktivors (and will mimic anthias) and every other day will not be enough for them. I would do minimum twice a day, they waste away easily.

Reviving an old thread to say I have had 2 Midas Blenny now, and they are aggressive butt fish. It may depend on what part of the world they come from but the ones from Petco (online, not store) are mean, very mean.

I just caught mine literally biting my 3 foot snowflake eel, I let it happen thinking the eel would win. Nope, eel can't move fast enough to retaliate just jeeps biting him. These fish are *****.

Update- after constantly chasing down my fish and killing one of my Anthias (or at least I think), I returned him to the fish store.

Still very interesting to me considering my last Midas Blenny was the most peaceful fish in my last tank!
