My Mighty Jet has no issues while running but once I place it on feeding mode, it will not turn back on and give an E5 error code. I looked into this and E5 means seized propeller. If I unplug the pump and plug it back in, it will then turn back on as normal. I just recently cleaned the impeller. I have seen that people put some type of petroleum jelly on the magnetic part of the impeller. What are your thoughts on that or other solutions?

What did you end up doing? Just buying a new one? That’s what I ended up doing.

I bought mine used. I am not sure how old it is but I did buy one on Amazon also. I called IM and left a message but I have not heard back from them yet.

IM got back to me and send me these instructions. It hasn’t seemed to help. My problem isn’t so much noise, my pump is noisy, but the impeller not starting up after stopping.

You are the best! Man, I was having a similar issue on a newly setup pump (same day). Would run fine for a few minutes then give me an E5 error. Followed the directions above and it seems to have fixed it for now. In my case I could clearly tell that the bushing/ceramic inside the body/internal to the impeller was not straight. I didn't even remove it, just pressed it flat, and poof, pump is running again. For now. Fingers crossed.

I hope it’s long lasting for you.

So amazing Google always brings me here!

I just received my IM Mighty Jet 538 midsize return pump for my Waterbox that'll be here the end of May early June..

I figured I'd better fill the kitchen sink up and make sure it works. Plugged it in and nothing! All I could hear was a vruuu, vruuu,...... And the controller was counting up and then show E5 and then repeat 5-6 times before finally shutting down and showing a solid E5.

Found this thread and figured I'd share what got this thing going for me. First off I read the pictures and followed the instructions that @Jaag posted, thanks man!

Even though the pictures show a different impeller I followed them. With the housing off I plugged the pump in. This time I could see the impeller try to start and had to give it a help to spin :/

So took it apart and this time I grabbed my tube of Molykote 111 and dipped the bottom shaft that seats into the rear of the pump into the tube to get a good amount on the bottom shaft that sits in the bushing. Then used a toothpick to apply some grease just under the impeller to touch the shaft. I slid the impeller up and down a few times and rotated it in my hand and could feel the grease worked into the tiny spot and could feel it was very smooth.

Assembled the pump and plugged it in and dang I had water hitting the ceiling lol.. like literally!

So everyone needs to have a tube of this Molykote 111 for moments like this. I originally ordered the grease after finding out that ecotech use it as a break in lube for their Vortech pumps.

Sorry a little long winded but hopefully this helps others that encounter this issue.

I came across this thread hoping to find a solution to an issue I’m experiencing with what appears to be a newer version of the Medium MightyJet pump.

I only ran into this issue because I decided to clean the pump after about three months of use — and now I wish I hadn’t! 😂

I removed the pump to clean and service it. After reassembling it, I started getting an E5 error code. The pump starts for approximately one second and then shuts off.

I noticed something unusual when taking the pump apart. There is a white disk attached to the propeller/impeller assembly (see attached photo).

Here’s the strange part: when the white disk is properly aligned with the groove in the impeller, the impeller does not spin freely. However, if I position the disk outside of the groove, the impeller spins normally and the pump runs without the E5 error.

The problem is that I obviously cannot reassemble the pump correctly with the disk positioned that way because the cover will not fit.

I also reached out to Innovative Marine, and they advised me to push the silicone bushing on the back of the motor housing all the way into the motor. I did that, but once I properly align the white disk with the groove, the impeller still does not spin freely and I get the E5 error.

At this point, I’m wondering if there is something I’m missing during reassembly, or if there could be an issue with the newer impeller/design. It seems unusual that the impeller binds when the white disk is positioned where it appears it is supposed to go.

Has anyone experienced this with the newer Medium MightyJet? Any advice or suggestions would be tremendously appreciated. I’ve included a picture of the impeller showing the white disk I’m referring to.

Thanks in advance!
