I have an IM 75 gal ext and would like to add another fish or small(ish) school but wanted to see the consensus

CURRENT STOCK
2 clowns
2 mandarin gobys
1 blue star leopard wrasse
1 black leopard wrassse
1 copperband butterfly
1 Helfrichi firefish
1 sunburst anthias
1 borbonius anthias
1 marine betta
1 gum drop goby

I feel like im maxxed when looking at the list but when looking at the tank I feel otherwise. My 2 anthias will occasionally chase the wrasses. Could potentially bringing in a larger fish help de-escalate the aggression or would that just increase it?

Wants and desires
- Tang (have steered away since I have the cbb and anthias)
- blue/green Chromis but I can’t get them from marine collectors/biota (don’t want to qt this time around)
- two spot blenny
- melanarus (steered away)
- rhomboid wrasse
- multi bar angel

I don't see why a small tang couldn't be added. I don't think there would be any agression toward CBB or anthias bristle tooth, scopas, yellow, purple.

i have a blue hippo, purple, sailfin and powder brown in a 75. all bought very small. but i knew i was upgrading in 6 months or less

i generally don't go for wrasse, everyone i have owned has managed to jump out.

what about a dwarf angel? can never go wrong in my book with a coral beauty

Hey towels, wassuppp? :)

Looking at your current list, I’d say your 75g is already on the high side in terms of long-term bioload and territorial dynamics — even if it “looks” like there’s room. With a CBB, anthias, and multiple active wrasses, you’ve already got a pretty busy mid-water column.

On the anthias/wrasse chasing:
Occasional chasing is normal, but adding a larger fish to “break it up” is risky. In many cases, it just reshuffles the hierarchy and creates new competition rather than calming things down.

On the fish you mentioned:
  • Tang – I wouldn’t in this setup; space and activity level make it a poor fit long-term.
  • Blue/Green Chromis – Fun movement, but small groups can whittle themselves down over time. If you can’t source healthy captive-bred from a trusted supplier, I’d skip for now.
  • Two Spot Blenny – Safest choice from your list. Peaceful, full of personality, low bioload.
  • Melanarus Wrasse – Hardy but could add to wrasse-on-wrasse tension and may harass mandarins.
  • Rhomboid Wrasse – Beautiful and generally peaceful, but still a high-energy wrasse.
  • Multi Bar Angel – Delicate to acclimate, potential coral nipper, and adds significantly to bioload.
Other ideas that could work well in your setup:
  • Midas Blenny – Lots of personality, active swimmer without adding aggression.
  • Yellow Watchman Goby + pistol shrimp – Great symbiotic behavior and keeps to the sand area.
  • Royal Gramma – Peaceful, colorful, tends to keep to its cave.
  • Orchid Dottyback (captive-bred) – Striking color, stays small, and CB individuals are generally peaceful.
  • Tailspot Blenny – Similar benefits to Two Spot, but even smaller and very peaceful.
If it were my tank:
I’d skip the tang, avoid adding another high-energy wrasse, and go for one of the blennies or a small, peaceful goby/basslet species. This keeps your bioload in check and avoids upsetting the current social balance. If you want to reduce chasing, adding more rockwork and swim-throughs often works better than adding another “referee” fish.
Sometimes a tank “feeling empty” is actually the fish using the space naturally — which is exactly what you want for long-term harmony.

I’d hate to have to rehome a tang and I don’t think I’d be able to upgrade from the 75 for quite some time. I may go for a bristletooth or white tail since they’re a bit smaller. If I recall correctly I read that coral beauties can be a real hit or miss with aggression / coral nipping.

Going to say no on the yellow. That fish will get big for the stocking that you have. I'm going to tag @i cant think to give you some more suggestions!

Major questions before I really chime in…

1. Got an FTS (Full Tank Shot)? If so, that would help the most - not just from an activity/space perspective but also, certain fish require different rock scapes to be truly happy & thrive. Angels (Paracentropyge especially) love clinging to the rockwork and having caves/overhangs to swim around rather than active swim room.

2. Sand bed? I’d assume you do seeing your wrasse list but I also have coral trays with several sand sleeping wrasses in and there’s no sand in there.

3. Again, may sound odd but what are the tank dimensions? I work around dimensions rather than volume (for the same reason as the 1st question).

Thanks for the reply. Here are some shots. I added some really old photos to better showcase the scape.

I previously had a flame angel with the clowns and copper band, but he was an *** to the clowns so I removed him. Probably won’t shoot for another angel. However, I really do like the multi bar angel but that may be Sicily with the cbb.

Sand bed is 2-3 inches. I added more because I really like my leopard wrasses and I felt bad since they would sometimes struggle getting into 1-2 inches of sand.

IM Ext 75, 3x2x2. Will get a photo / vid with fish when I get back in town

I added a biota yellow tang to my 100 gal. tank last week. Tonight I noticed it actively trying to injure or worse my cbb. I added some mirrors and more food. The tang might have to be rehomed at this rate.
