Hey R2R members...

Looking to see how everyone else has mounted their AL hybrid lights. I have the 61" T5 set up with two Hydra52HDs. Tried to mount the lights from the ceiling but wasn't too happy with all the wires. Was told that a canopy would have to be very tall to make this work....

so wanted to see what options everyone else is running.

Thanks!

Is it hanging or attach from off the wall?? Hard to tell.

I been wondering the same for myself but my ceiling is really high to have it hanging and look good. Wanted to see also what others have

I hung it from the ceiling. I had it suspended from a shelf at first but it looked messy. I built the canopy and put a power strip inside so now the only wire hanging off the back is the one for the power strip. I've seen people use the articulating flat screen mounts to hang these lights as another option.

I have this unit, I used two of the old Hydra mounts that screw into the back of the tank stand, and then put the mounting string from the hybrid through the holes of the hydra mounting extension piece. Worked perfectly.

A simple floating shelf design. I am at work. I can take some pictures when I get home. I took 1 1/4 angle iron and put one piece across the back wall anchored to studs with stainless steal lag bolts. I welded an arm coming out on each side. I then put a 1 1/2 piece of pvc through the wall. I ran the wires to the garage. Made a plug painted to match. I modified the lights so the wires come out the same side. Here is a video I did of it.
I then connected to a Alexa power strip.

Here are some close up pics. Of both of my light. I didn't know Radions don't go through water as good a Kessil. I had to lower the one fixture. I haven't gotten around to lowering the wires on that one yet.

I'm about to buy the 61" aquaticlife hybrid fixture, and would love to copy your hanging shelf mount you employed. Can you send me a link of the shelving bracket and/or more pics of how you did it?

Wow! This came out really nice! I think I'm going to copy your idea and get to welding this weekend! Does it just sit on top of the angle iron? Looks like it would be easy to remove if needing to change bulbs/ clean.

Yes, I made it so the inside dimension is about 1/4" wider than the light.i modified the light so both cords came out of the same side and tucked in.

Hello Mr Palmer, your shelf bracket looks amazing and clean. Do you have any pictures without the blue light so it’s easier to see how you built it or a video of the build (not the video on putting wires on the same side.) I recently purchased two 36” dimmable Aquatic life hybrid fixtures. Would you consider selling the shelf bracket already made for those of us who have no welding skills?
Thank you.

Do you think this is possible with the 46" fixture or it would be too heavy?

I would like to see a video of how you created this fixture. That would be so helpful... See the thing is i'm on the fence between purchasing Radion XR30's and spending a lot of money for the new type of lighting or plugging in a T5 Fixture with my kessils to supplement.

The wire hanging from the ceiling mount , is a deal breaker due to the fact that my aquarium is in the living room. But this creative mounting you have here is something i would consider.

If you check this forum, i would appreciate your feedback

This is a 48" fixture. I also have a 24" one. It was very simple to make. I used a piece of angle iron that is the length of the fixture. Then I figured the distance from where I wanted the front edge to the wall. I welded a piece of angle iron that length to each side. I found the studs and predrilled two holes and used 2 lag bolts at each.

Love this look. I might try something with maple to match my stand and use some angle brackets in the corners to reinforce. Did you wrap the iron across the front too or just the ends and a cross bar on the back like a three sided shelf?

I suppose I should just watch your video...=/
