So I'm moving next week and have a few questions because I have never moved a tank before. The tank is relatively new. Only just finished its cycle (relatively) recently. It's a pico (thank baby Jesus) at about 5.5 gallons.
Should I just dump the water into a bucket, put the rock in there with it, and transfer the inverts (might have one fish but haven't seen him since purchase.) in a tupperware or something? Same with corals?
There's no need to acclimate if I use most of the tanks water, correct? Just have to wait for it to warm back up?

I'm not moving far, same city. About a 15 minute drive or so. I plan on having its new and permanent home set up before I move the tank. It'll be the last thing moved and the first thing set up.

Any tips or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

yeah since its small just pack it all up and move it you could probally just keep enough water to have the rock and sand wet and youd be good doesnt have to be maxed if yo want get one of those buckets from home depot the orange one and put a lid on it good to go

That's exactly what I was thinking of doing. I just a wanted to check with the community to make sure there isn't a necessary step I need to take that I'm unaware of or something. :)

Put some saran wrap around it and call it a day! Haha! just kidding!
But seriously, Id get a (new fish dedicated) 5g bucket and put most of the water, livestock and rock in it. Leave the sand and some water in the tank and just move it all at one time. If it is really only a 15 minute move I would think you are fine.
I would also make sure the rock is totally submerged in the water in whatever container you decide to use to move it though since you say you may have a fish in there. I have had some fish hitchike in the rocks on moves.

I've done this a few times , a few diff ways with the same size tanks. IME , the best way for no issues with with mini cycle was: remove ALL rock and fish to a bucket ( submerging all rock )
Then leave only enough water in tank to keep sand barely covered. .. set up by placing rock .. pouring water over rock SLOWLY ( or pour into tank over an upside down plate to disperse without churning the sand bed, then add rock after) . I use only 3/4 water then add NSW and heat . I add a dose of Dr Tims Bacteria and add fish once temperature is sufficient. That's my 'careful method'
I have also emptied half water ( left rock in ) and put tank int a garbage bag wrapped over top and taped around lol then put that into a plastic bin to catch catch any spillage in transit . lol
Depends on how careful u wanna be I guess

What does the bacteria do for the tank? If I will be using most of the same water, and the same rock/sand, shouldn't it already be cycled? Does it just make things easier on the occupants?
